MNE microfoundations and routines for building a legitimate and sustainable position in emerging markets

A number of studies have analysed how multinational enterprises (MNEs) develop appropriate strategies for managing the institutionally different contexts of various markets. However, we still know rather little about how MNEs manage different institutional pressures when they operate in emerging markets. These markets have a higher level of uncertainty as their values and structures undergo change

The usefulness of appetite and energy intake-based algorithms to assess treatment effect of a bacterial infection : An observational prospective study

Background: The diagnosis of infectious diseases and the duration of antibiotic therapies are generally based on empirical rules. Studies implicate that the use biological markers can be used as a reliable method to shorten antibiotic therapies. The return of appetite is a clinical aspect of recovery from an infection that may be used to guide antibiotic therapies. Objective: To compare changes in

The Action of Faces and Spaces : An Interactionist Perspective on the Performance of a Lifestyle Enterprise

Taking a performance perspective of entrepreneurship as the point of departure, the social action of entrepreneurship is examined through an interactionist lens. In particular, it applies the micro-sociology of interactionism of Erving Goffman as expounded in his seminal essays ‘On Face-Work’ and ‘The Nature of Deference and Demeanour’. The paper explores entrepreneurship through a case study of a

Electrochemical flow-ELISA for rapid and sensitive determination of microcystin-LR using automated sequential injection system

An amperometric immunoanalysis system based on monoclonal antibodies immobilized on Sepharose beads and packed into a micro-immunocolumn was developed for the quantification of microcystin-LR. Microcystin-LR (MCLR) was used as a reference microcystin variant. Inside the immunocolumn, free microcystins and microcystin-horseradish peroxidase (tracer) were sequentially captured by the immobilized ant

Temperature controlled supply chains call for improved knowledge and shared responsibility

In modern industrialised society prepared meals and eating out of home is an increasing phenomenon. This develops new business opportunities for food manufacturers, since they need to create more convenience to the consumers through food that can be prepared and served quickly. However, the new food products require increased quality and safety and thereby more controlled distribution. The issue i

Real-time real-sky dual-conjugate adaptive optics experiment

The current status of a real-time real-sky dual-conjugate adaptive optics experiment is presented. This experiment is a follow-up on a lab experiment at Lund Observatory that demonstrated dual-conjugate adaptive optics on a static atmosphere. The setup is to be placed at Lund Observatory. This means that the setup will be available 24h a day and does not have to share time with other instruments.

Markups and Export Pricing

We analyze empirically product-price variation across export destinations using detailed firm-product data. Most recent studies using highly disaggregated data emphasize variations in product quality as an explanation as to why firms charge different prices for the same product on different export markets. In this paper, we take an alternative approach and assume that variations in firms' export p

Bridging Trade Barriers: Evaluating Models of Multi-Product Exporters

In this paper we investigate the impact of a decrease in trade costs on firm decisions to export. The main contribution of this paper is to evaluate empirically the theoretical predictions of several models of multi-product exporters. The focus is on the firm export entry decision and the within firm adjustment regarding product scope and intensity. For identification, a quasi-natural experiment,

Reframing the Multilevel Triple Helix in a Regional Innovation System: A case of systemic foresight and regimes in renewal of Skane’s food industry

Most organizational findings on Triple Helix modes of interaction have originated in studies of high-tech sectors and emergent industries, whereas low-tech sectors and mature industries to a less extent have been explored in the Triple Helix literature. A foresight initiative aiming at an enhanced renewal of the mature food industry in the region of Skane, was conducted 2006-2007. Findings from th

Increased focus on values. A tool in stress prevention?

Background and purpose Can an increased focus on values in working life be a factor in stress prevention? Values are defined as the shared principles which guide behaviour in an organisation. The purpose of this study was to describe how patients with musculoskeletal pain perceive the importance of values in relation to coping with daily stress and in relation to health. Methods Patients receivi

Measuring Professional Judgements: An Application of the Factorial Survey Approach to the Field of Social Work

The focus on this thesis is the factorial survey approach as a method for studying professional judgements in social work. The factorial survey approach, which was first introduced in the social sciences around the beginning of the 1980s, constitutes an advanced method for measuring human judgements of social objects. At the general level, this quasi-experimental approach involves presenting respo

Environmental and social responsibility in supply chains: the practice of choice and/or inter-organisational management

The general concern for the state of the environment sets requirements on strategies developed by companies to curb environmental and social impacts of their activities. One of the most notable changes in the way companies work with sustainability issues is the shift of the focus from own operations to improving the performance of supply chains. This paper aims to analyse the practise of corporate
