Intracoronary near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) has demonstrated substantial lipid in STEMI culprit plaques. Thrombus aspiration during primary PCI reduces distal embolization and improves reperfusion.
