The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) is a program open to students from all over the world who want to carry out a 10-week project at Caltech. LTH has a well established tradition of sending students through the SURF-program, thanks to generous support by Richard Murray, professor of Control and Dynamical Systems and Bioengineering at Caltech and also honorary doctor of Lund Univers

We improve efficiency and reduce costs. What do traffic networks, wind farms, Facebook and economic markets have in common? They are all large-scale networked systems, which can be analyzed and optimized using automatic control techniques. By developing scalable methods for control and optimization, researchers at the Department of Automatic Control are contributing to solving one of the greatest

We combine scientific expertise with industrial competence. Considering Ericsson’s forecasy (Ericsson's website) that 47 billion devices will be connected to the Internet in 2030, 22 billion being IoT (Internet of Things (Wikipedia) devices, and the emergence of the Industrial IoT (Wikipedia) and Industry 4.0 (Wikipedia)/5.0, researchers in Autonomous Real-Time Systems will be kept very busy. We translate ideas into sustainable and useful products and services. This is an area of application-driven research motivated by the desire to create a more sustainable society. It addresses several of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (United Nations' website), in particular numbers 3, 4, 9, and 12: Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, a

Automatic Control is sometimes referred to as ‘the hidden technology’, as it is all around us without us even realising it. Automatic Control is about ensuring that processes automatically behave in the desired manner. The subject is probably best explained through a number of examples.Cruise control for cars and autopilots for aeroplanes and ships are examples of control engineering. Speeds and p
