DoSVis : Document stance visualization

Text visualization techniques often make use of automatic text classification methods. One of such methods is stance analysis, which is concerned with detecting various aspects of the writer's attitude towards utterances expressed in the text. Existing text visualization approaches for stance classification results are usually adapted to textual data consisting of individual utterances or short me

Coffee consumption, genetic susceptibility and risk of latent autoimmune diabetes in adults : A population-based case-control study

Aim: Coffee consumption is inversely related to risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D). In contrast, an increased risk of latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) has been reported in heavy coffee consumers, primarily in a subgroup with stronger autoimmune characteristics. Our study aimed to investigate whether coffee consumption interacts with HLA genotypes in relation to risk of LADA. Methods: This po

The lived body – Both the vehicle and the message : A longitudinal case study

From early childhood, Hanna, born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy II, has adhered to a standing posture for all her independent locomotion. Aim: To investigate why Hanna in childhood chose to stand and the meaning that standing holds for Hanna as an adult. Method: Single case study of a single person, Hanna, based on her contemporary statements as an adult about her lived experience from childhood, i

Theoretical study of combined acousto-optical tomography and slow light filters

Monte Carlo simulations were used to determine the contrast-to-noise ratio of acoustooptical tomographic imaging with slow light filters versus possible imaging depth. Both reflection and transmission setups were considered. The theoretical model showed that imaging through 12 cm of breast tissue could be plausible.

Cooling history and age of magnetization of a deep intrusion : A new 1.7 Ga key pole and Svecofennian-post Svecofennian APWP for Baltica

A paleomagnetic and chronogical study has been performed on the Turinge gabbro-diabase formation and on a cross cutting basic dyke in central Sweden and on the Joulovaara gabbro intrusion in northern Sweden in the Fennoscandian Shield. U-Pb age of baddeleyite and 40Ar/39Ar ages of hornblende and biotite reveal a cooling history of the deep gabbro-diabase intrusion in Turinge. The cooling is sugges

Targeting transcriptional control of soluble guanylyl cyclase via NOTCH for prevention of cardiovascular disease

Soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC) is an effector enzyme of nitric oxide (NO). Recent work has unravelled how levels of this enzyme are controlled, and highlighted a role in vascular disease. We provide a timely summary of available knowledge on transcriptional regulation of sGC, including influences from the NOTCH signalling pathway and genetic variants. It is speculated that hypertension-induced rep

Mechanical behaviour of additively manufactured lunar regolith simulant components

Additive manufacturing and its related techniques have frequently been put forward as a promising candidate for planetary in-situ manufacturing, from building life-sustaining habitats on the Moon to fabricating various replacements parts, aiming to support future extra-terrestrial human activity. This paper investigates the mechanical behaviour of lunar regolith simulant material components, which

Sense of Coherence in persons with late effects of polio

BACKGROUND: Sense of Coherence (SOC) is important for successful adaptation and mental well-being in people with life-long medical conditions. Late effects of polio (LEoP) often lead to a life-long disability, but no study has assessed SOC in this population. OBJECTIVE: To assess SOC in persons with LEoP and to explore the association between SOC, demographics (age, gender, marital status and leve

Läkemedelsbehandling av epilepsi : Många nya alternativ men måttliga framsteg

Pharmacotherapy of epilepsy is usually initiated after two or more unprovoked seizures, a decision that should be made after assessment of the individual risk of further seizures. Antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) are selected based on documented efficacy for the type of seizures, the epilepsy and possible epilepsy syndrome of the patient, taking potential adverse effects and comorbidity into account. Fo

Opportunities and challenges in the new innovation landscape : Implications for innovation auditing and innovation management

Innovation auditing is a well-established practice used by managers to identify strengths and weaknesses in innovation. Existing audit frameworks fall short, however, because they neglect three major trends that currently transform the innovation landscape. These trends are as follows: 1) a shift from closed to more open models of innovation (“openness”), 2) a shift from providing physical product

Structure-function relationship during CO2 methanation over Rh/Al2O3 and Rh/SiO2 catalysts under atmospheric pressure conditions

The effect of the support material and chemical state of Rh in Rh/A2O3 and Rh/SiO2 model catalysts during CO2 hydrogenation were studied by a combined array of in situ characterisation techniques including diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray absorption spectroscopy and high-energy X-ray diffraction at 250-350 °C and atmospheric pressure. CO2 methana

Usefulness of Electrocardiographic Left Atrial Abnormality to Predict Response to Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy in Patients With Mild Heart Failure and Left Bundle Branch Block (a Multicenter Automatic Defibrillator Implantation Trial with Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Substudy)

Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) has proven prognostic benefits in patients with heart failure (HF) with left bundle branch block (LBBB) QRS morphology. Electrocardiographic left atrial (LA) abnormality has been proposed as a noninvasive marker of atrial remodeling. We aimed to assess the impact of electrocardiographic LA abnormality for prognosis in patients with HF treated with CRT. Basel

Performance of nanoporous carbon membrane for hydrogen recovery

The aim of this work is to study the performance of nanoporous carbon membrane for hydrogen recovery from off-gas streams. The study is based on a rigorous mathematical model which can predict the performance of nanoporous selective surface flow (SSF) carbon membrane. Basically, the developed model is based on two transport mechanisms: the dusty gas flow through porous media and the surface adsorp

An Unsymmetric Ligand with a N5O2 Donor Set and Its Corresponding Dizinc Complex : A Structural and Functional Phosphoesterase Model

To mimic the active sites of the hydrolytic enzyme zinc phosphotriesterase, a new dinucleating unsymmetric ligand, PICIMP (2-([2-hydroxy-5-methyl-3-(([(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)methyl](pyridin-2-ylmethyl)amino)methyl)benzyl][(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)methyl]amino)acetic acid), has been synthesized and characterized. The hydrolytic efficacy of the complex solution (PICIMP/ZnCl2 = 1:2) has been in

Patterns of developmental plasticity in response to incubation temperature in reptiles

Early life environments shape phenotypic development in important ways that can lead to long-lasting effects on phenotype and fitness. In reptiles, one aspect of the early environment that impacts development is temperature (termed 'thermal developmental plasticity'). Indeed, the thermal environment during incubation is known to influence morphological, physiological, and behavioral traits, some o

Field validation of radar systems for monitoring bird migration

Advances in information technology are increasing the use of radar as a tool to investigate and monitor bird migration movements. We set up a field campaign to compare and validate outputs from different radar systems. Here we compare the pattern of nocturnal bird migration movements recorded by four different radar systems at a site in southern Sweden. Within the range of the weather radar (WR) Ä

Antisolvent precipitation of hemicelluloses, lignosulfonates and their complexes from ultrafiltrated spent sulfite liquor (SSL)

The possibility of precipitating high molecular weight (MW) softwood hemicelluloses has been investigated. Solids were precipitated from a sodium-based spent sulfite liquor with the anti-solvents acetone, ethanol and methanol and the effects of solute concentration, pH and temperature on the precipitation were studied. The product yield, degree of separation, MW and structure of the different frac

Impacts of fire on sources of soil CO2 efflux in a dry Amazon rain forest

Fire at the dry southern margin of the Amazon rainforest could have major consequences for regional soil carbon (C) storage and ecosystem carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, but relatively little information exists about impacts of fire on soil C cycling within this sensitive ecotone. We measured CO2 effluxes from different soil components (ground surface litter, roots, mycorrhizae, soil organic matte
