Developing a "Better" ERP system: The Risk of Loosing Competitive Advantage
Using Double Helix Relationships to Understand and Change Informing Systems
The paper opens by generalizing the concept of 'informing science'. It then introduces some meta-scientific perspectives and a discussion of a metaphor that has considerable explanatory power. Two main schools of metascience are presented and contrasted. The difference between treating invariances in natural sciences and in social and cultural sciences is discussed. The double helix is introduced
Improved MALDI-TOF-MS analysis of partially depolymerised methyl cellulose by reducing end derivatisation
The depolymerized methyl cellulose was analyzed, using improved MALDI-TOF-MS by reducing the end derivatization. The methyl cellulose was depolymerized to give methylated oligo-(1->4)-β-D-anhydroglucoses (M-oligo-AG). To reduce the errors during measurement of degree of substitution (DS), M-oligo-AG was derivatized with Girard's T reagent performed on an equimolar mixture of maltooligosaccharides.

Treatment for retinopathy of prematurity in Sweden 2008–2021 : Reduced gestational age of treated infants and remaining differences in treatment type and recurrence rates between hospitals
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate various aspects of treatment for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in Sweden over the past 14 years, nationally and at a hospital level. Methods: Data on screening and treatment for ROP in infants born in Sweden from 2008 to 2021 were extracted from the national ROP register, SWEDROP. During this period, Swedish screening guidelines were reduced from gestati

DETERRENCE BY DENIAL AND RESILIENCE BUILDING
Deterrence and resilience are intimately connected. Deterrence is about understanding threats and using levers that might force an adversary to reconsider their objectives and actions against you. Resilience is about understanding yourself and the measures you can take to become a less attractive target, or to bounce back more quickly from a setback. This combination of deterrence and resilience h
Pretreatment of Lignocellulosic Materials for Efficient Bioethanol Production
Second-generation bioethanol produced from various lignocellulosic materials, such as wood, agricultural or forest residues, has the potential to be a valuable substitute for, or a complement to, gasoline. One of the crucial steps in the ethanol production is the hydrolysis of the hemicellulose and cellulose to monomer sugars. The most promising method for hydrolysis of cellulose to glucose is by
Molecular cloning and sequence analysis of cDNA coding for the precursor of the human cysteine proteinase inhibitor cystatin C
Recombinant cystatin C producing clones were isolated from a human placenta λgt11 cDNA library. The cDNA insert of one of the clones, containing 777 base pairs, encodes the complete mature cystatin C (120 amino acids) and a hydrophobic leader sequence of 26 amino acids, indicating an extracellular function of the inhibitor. The deduced protein sequence confirms the protein sequence of cystatin C i
The morphology of axial and branched nanowire heterostructures
We present an extensive investigation of the epitaxial growth of Au-assisted axial heterostructure nanowires composed of group IV and III-V materials and derive a model to explain the overall morphology of such wires. By analogy with 2D epitaxial growth, this model relates the wire morphology (i.e., whether it is kinked or straight) to the relationship of the interface energies between the two mat
Molecular and clinical characteristics of invasive group A streptococcal infection in Sweden
Background. The incidence and severity of invasive group A streptococcal infection demonstrate great variability over time, which at least, in part, seems to be related to group A streptococcal type distribution among the human population. Methods. An enhanced surveillance study of invasive group A streptococcal infection (746 isolates) was performed in Sweden from April 2002 through December 2004
On the Road to FAIR: 1st Operation of AGATA in PreSPEC at GSI
The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR), under construction at Darmstadt will provide intense relativistic beams of exotic nuclei at its Superconducting-FRagment Separator. High-resolution in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy will be performed in the HISPEC experiment, using the European Advanced GAmma-ray Tracking Array (AGATA). The PreSPEC-AGATA campaign is the predecessor of HISPEC and runs f

Pedagogy and Process in "Organisational Problem-Solving"
This paper outlines a case study in which a management development learning process was tightly coupled to organisational change and development objectives. The case discusses how a research and consulting team came together to develop highly reflexive pedagogy to support the work of internal managers who were organized into teams (learning sets) to undertake 'organisational problem solving'. Thes
Liposuction combined with controlled compression therapy reduces arm lymphedema more effectively than controlled compression therapy alone.
Anxiolytic Drugs
This chapter provides a brief history of the evolution of medications used to treat anxiety and anxiety disorders, as described in the Diagnostics and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR). We also summarize the efficacy and adverse effects data from clinical trials for these medications. Medication classes reviewed include antidepressants, benzodiazepines, beta-blockers, anticonvulsa
SEMIOTICS, MODELS AND COMPUTING
Recently, semiotics has begun to be related to computing. Since semiotics is about the interpretation of signs, of which language is a chief part, such an interest may seem quite reasonable. The semiotic approach is supposed to bring semantics to the computer. In this paper I discuss the realistic in this from the point of view of computers as linguistic systems, that is, as interpreters of descri
HCCI Operating Range in a Turbo-charged Multi Cylinder Engine with VVT and Spray-Guided DI
Homogenous charge compression ignition (HCCI) has been identified as a promising way to increase the efficiency of the spark-ignited engine, while maintaining low emissions. The challenge with HCCI combustion is excessive pressure rise rate, quantified here with Ringing Intensity. Turbocharging enables increased dilution of the charge and thus a reduction of the Ringing Intensity. The engine used
ASYMMETRICAL CONFLICT IN THE INFORMATION DOMAIN—THE CASE OF RUSSIA
The deteriorating security environment in Europe due to the increasing conflict of interests between western democracies and Russia is now, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, obvious to all. But the willingness of the Russian state to oppose and disrupt European security order and the sovereignty of other states is not new. One increasingly common way is using influence operations, often in co
