Nurses' personalities, nursing-related qualities and work satisfaction: a 10-year perspective

The personalities and qualities of nursing personnel are considered to be of great importance for their interactions and nursing relationships with patients and may also influence work satisfaction. The aim of the study was to explore the extent to which different personal qualities and personality factors, with a possible effect on motivation, professional conduct and coping with stress and anxie

I focus on the portrayal of the criminals, especially the moral aspect. The series can be regarded as moral tales. The morality is embedded in the characters that populate the different episodes. There are two major categories of criminals in the series; the essentialized criminals and the ones that commit crimes due to circumstanc

Perceptual defensiveness and ESP performance: Reconstructed DMT ratings and psychological correlates in the first German DMT-ESP experiment

The concept of perceptual defensiveness is related to subliminal perception and preconscious processing. Meta-analyses of earlier experiments, 6 in the United States and Holland and 10 in Iceland, on the Defense Mechanism Test (DMT)-ESP relationship had shown significantly higher ESP scoring by less defensive participants. In the present experiment, conducted in Freiburg, Germany, 50 participants

Effects of ultraviolet radiation and visible light on growth, fluorescence induction, ultraweak luminescence and peroxidase activity in sugar beet plants

Experiments were conducted under growth chamber conditions in order to investigate the importance of the background light quality for the effect of UVB (280–320 nm) radiation on plants. Three week-old sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) plants were irradiated for three weeks with enhanced levels of UVB radiation with the following background light conditions: white light (WL) (350–700 nm), WL+UVA (suppl

Rapid elimination by glomerular filtration of free prostate specific antigen and human kallikrein 2 after renal transplantation.

PURPOSE: The low molecular mass and short half-life of free (f) prostate specific antigen (PSA) implies elimination from blood by glomerular filtration. In addition, patients with terminal renal failure have increased fPSA in serum but there have been sparse data reported on the rates and pathways of elimination of PSA complexes and human kallikrein 2 (hK2). We studied glomerular filtration depend

Diagnosis of pelvic inflammatory disease: time for a rethink

Objectives: To critically evaluate the available evidence base concerned with the diagnosis of pelvic inflammatory disease ( PID) based on clinical presentation, and to investigate the relation between signs and symptoms and the presence of laparoscopically diagnosed PID using the largest available dataset. Methods: The evidence base was critically evaluated and data collected by Lund University b

Traffic engineering and occupational therapy: A collaborative approach for future directions.

Swedish legislation and international norms emphasize society's obligation to ensure general accessibility. The possibility of independent outdoor mobility, transportation, and travel are as important for individuals with reduced functional capacity as for other members of society, but today their mobility is limited. The aim of this article is to outline a novel field for research collaboration b

Performance of a sisal fibre fixed-bed anaerobic digester for biogas production from sisal pulp waste

A single stage anaerobic digester employing a sisal fibre waste fixed bed was studied for biogas production from sisal pulp waste. The fibre was colonized by microorganisms involved in biogas production. The sisal pulp waste to be digested was fed from the top and was sprinkled intermittently with recirculating leachate from the material. Organic loading rates of 0.1-10 kg volatile solids (VS) m-3

Monte Carlo generators

I discuss some recent development of Monte Carlo event generators and point out some problems. Starting with the issue of combining matrix element generators and parton shower algorithms, I will continue with discussing the problems associated with describing small-x final states and discuss some recent model developments for describing multiple partonic scatterings and underlying events in hadron

The Native Reaction Centre of Photosystem II: A New Paradigm for P680

Low-temperature spectra of fully active (oxygen-evolving) Photosystem II (PSII) cores prepared from spinach exhibit well developed structure. Spectra of isolated sub-fragments of PSII cores establish that the native reaction centre is better structured and red-shifted compared to the isolated reaction centre. Laser illumination of PSII cores leads to efficient and deep spectral hole-burning. Measu

Denna könsmässigt underrepresenterade grupp, som i sin yrkesutövning befinner sig i en kraftigt könsmäThe aim of this study is to describe and analyse the situation of male teachers in the day-to-day work of pre-school, taking into account the fact that men are underrepresented in this profession. The methodic field is qualitative. Video recordings and interviews have been carried out with the fourteen male pre-school teachers who have participated in the project. Some of these men work together w

Sociala och poliThis dissertation, based on 14 months of fieldwork carried out in central, northern and north-eastern Thailand, focuses on laypeople's demands on contemporary Thai Theravada sangha. In the aftermath of the economic breakdown in 1997, an intense discussion concerning the moral status of the sangha took place. The religious interests and demands clearly differ between different groups. What still se

On the role of the fusion protein DEK-NUP214 in leukemogenesis

De vita blodkropparna hjälper oss atThe t(6;9) translocation is found in a subset of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and is associated with a poor prognosis. The translocation results in the formation of the DEK-NUP214 fusion protein containing almost the entire nuclear protein DEK and two thirds of the nucleoporin NUP214. The molecular mechanisms behind the leukemic conversion of cells expressing the fusion protein DEK-N

Om r-fonemets historia i svenskan

It is suggested that Proto-Nordic /r/ was velar or uvular and /z/ postdental. It is suggsted that the two pronunciations were preserved in different areas after the phonemic merger: postdental in central Sweden and Norway and velar/uvular in the south of Scandinavia. The idea that the velar /r/ was imported from France int he 17th or 18th century is rejected.
