Bis(mu(3)-iodo)-pentakis(mu(2)-iodo)-penta-copper(I) - A fully ordered, isolated [Cu5I7](2-) cluster

Two new compounds, [(C4H9)(4)P](2)[Cu5I7], and [(C4H9)(4) P](2)[Cu5I7]center dot CH3COCH2OH were synthesized by solvolysis and their crystal structures were solved. The first compound is disordered, but the solvate represents the first example of a fully ordered [Cu5I7](2-) cluster. It displays a molecular symmetry very close to C-2. Both compounds crystallize in space group P2(1)/c. (C) 2010 Else

Drumlinised glaciofluvial and glaciolacustrine sediments on the Småland peneplain, South Sweden – new evidence on the growth and decay history of the Fennoscandian Ice Sheets during MIS 3

Dug trenches in sediment-cored drumlins on the Småland peneplain, southern Sweden, occurring intermixed with rock-cored drumlins, revealed sedimentary successions and facies suggesting that the core sediments were primarily deposited proglacially, both in glaciolacustrine settings as delta-front and more distal deeper-water sediments, and as glaciofluvial braidplain sediments. From the relationshi

Gas phase chemical vapor deposition chemistry of triethylboron probed by boron-carbon thin film deposition and quantum chemical calculations

We present triethylboron (TEB) as a single-source precursor for chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of BxC thin films and study its gas phase chemistry under CVD conditions by quantum chemical calculations. A comprehensive thermochemical catalogue for the species of the gas phase chemistry of TEB is examined and found to be dominated by beta-hydride eliminations of C2H4 to yield BH3. A complementary b

The Omnipotent MNC – A Review and Discussion

Until the late 1990s researcher described a new strategy and organization for MNCs. The new MNC was omnipotent in character, striving for many new competitive advantages. This paper reviews the literature and synthesizes the ideas behind this Omnipotent MNC. General themes and key organizational characteristics are identified. A survey among large Swedish companies illustrate that many of the iden

Search for microscopic black holes in a like-sign dimuon final state using large track multiplicity with the ATLAS detector

A search is presented for microscopic black holes in a like-sign dimuon final state in proton-proton collisions at root s = 8 TeV. The data were collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1). Using a high track multiplicity requirement, 0.6 +/- 0.2 background events from Standard Model processes are predicted and no

Plastic surgical treatment of purpura fulminans: Long-term follow-up of two patients.

Abstract Purpura fulminans (PF) is a rapidly progressing, potentially life-threatening condition characterised by disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and haemorrhagic infarction of the skin. Plastic surgical treatment of PF has never been reported in Scandinavia. The aim of this report was to review plastic surgical treatment of PF and the long-term results of two patients treated in our

Crafting Knowledge?

”Crafting knowledge” was a session organised by Anneli Palmsköld and Johanna Rosenqvist, that took place in Norrköping, Sweden, 16 June 2011 as part of the International ACSIS Conference Current Issues in European Cultural Studies. Together the scholars participating in the Crafting knowledge-session were covering a range of subfields of craft studies today. The session focused on the explorative

Randomised health services studies

The randomised controlled (or clinical) trial (RCT) is recognized as the most valid among the study designs. The use of RCT in research is widespread and well formalised. In contrast, implementations of new methods and policies in routine health care are commonly lacking a formalised design, impairing the ability to evaluate and improve health care. Use of experimental designs in health care is po

Prospective study of physical activity and risk of primary adenocarcinomas of the oesophagus and stomach in the EPIC (European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and nutrition) cohort

To analyse the association between types of physical activity (occupational, recreational and household, vigorous and overall) and risk of primary oesophageal (OAC) or gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC). From nine European countries, 420,449 participants were recruited between 1991 and 2000 and followed-up for a mean of 8.8 years to register incident GAC and OAC. Information on physical activity (PA), d

Optimal stomatal behaviour around the world

Stomatal conductance (g(s)) is a key land-surface attribute as it links transpiration, the dominant component of global land evapotranspiration, and photosynthesis, the driving force of the global carbon cycle. Despite the pivotal role of g(s) in predictions of global water and carbon cycle changes, a global-scale database and an associated globally applicable model of g(s) that allow predictions

Synthesis and magnetic characterization of MnAs nanoparticles via nanoparticle conversion

We report on the synthesis of ferromagnetic manganese arsenide (MnAs) nanoparticles via the conversion of primary Mn particles which are generated in an aerosol process in a spark discharge generator. After sintering and size selection in an aerosol setup, the particles are deposited on GaAs(100) B and Si(111) substrates. Subsequent conversion to MnAs particles takes place in an annealing process

Nuclear magnetic relaxation induced by exchange-mediated orientational randomization: Longitudinal relaxation dispersion for spin I = 1.

The frequency dependence of the longitudinal relaxation rate, known as the magnetic relaxation dispersion (MRD), can provide a frequency-resolved characterization of molecular motions in complex biological and colloidal systems on time scales ranging from 1 ns to 100 μs. The conformational dynamics of immobilized proteins and other biopolymers can thus be probed in vitro or in vivo by exploiting i

Structural study of helical polyfluorene under high quasihydrostatic pressure

We report on an x-ray diffraction (XRD) study of helical poly[9,9-bis(2-ethylhexyl)fluorene] (PF2/6) under high quasihydrostatic pressure and show an effect of pressure on the torsion angle (dihedral angle) between adjunct repeat units and on the hexagonal unit cell. A model for helical backbone conformation is constructed. The theoretical position for the most prominent 00l x-ray reflection is ca

Thiol-exchange in DTSSP crosslinked peptides is proportional to cysteine content and precisely controlled in crosslink detection by two-step LC-MALDI MSMS

The lysine-specific crosslinker 3,3'-dithiobis(sulfosuccinimidylpropionate) (DTSSP) is commonly used in the structural characterization of proteins by chemical crosslinking and mass spectrometry and we here describe an efficient two-step LC-MALDI-TOF/TOF procedure to detect crosslinked peptides. First MS data are acquired, and the properties of isotope-labeled DTSSP are used in data analysis to id

Expert assessment of vulnerability of permafrost carbon to climate change

Approximately 1700 Pg of soil carbon (C) are stored in the northern circumpolar permafrost zone, more than twice as much C than in the atmosphere. The overall amount, rate, and form of C released to the atmosphere in a warmer world will influence the strength of the permafrost C feedback to climate change. We used a survey to quantify variability in the perception of the vulnerability of permafros

A new system for naming ribosomal proteins.

A system for naming ribosomal proteins is described that the authors intend to use in the future. They urge others to adopt it. The objective is to eliminate the confusion caused by the assignment of identical names to ribosomal proteins from different species that are unrelated in structure and function. In the system proposed here, homologous ribosomal proteins are assigned the same name, regard
