Esaias Tegnér (1782–1846), professor i grekiska vid Lunds universitet 1812–1824, därefter biskop i Växjö fram till sin död, var en av sin tids mest betydande kulturpersonligheter: en lysande diktare, en framstående talare, en dugande universitetslärare, kraftfull biskop, briljant och spirituell brevskrivare.
