Genomförande av direktiv från EU - Hur bör "klara, precisa och ovillkorliga" bestämmelser i ett direktiv från EU genomföras i svensk rätt då bestämmelserna i vissa fall är oklara, oprecisa och tvetydiga?
Azurophil Granule Proteins Constitute the Major Mycobactericidal Proteins in Human Neutrophils and Enhance the Killing of Mycobacteria in Macrophages
Pathogenic mycobacteria reside in, and are in turn controlled by, macrophages. However, emerging data suggest that neutrophils also play a critical role in innate immunity to tuberculosis, presumably by their different antibacterial granule proteins. In this study, we purified neutrophil azurophil and specific granules and systematically analyzed the antimycobacterial activity of some purified azu
Comparison between remote sensing and a dynamic vegetation model for estimating terrestrial primary production of Africa
Africa is an important part of the global carbon cycle. It is also a continent facing potential problems due to increasing resource demand in combination with climate change-induced changes in resource supply. Quantifying the pools and fluxes constituting the terrestrial African carbon cycle is a challenge, because of uncertainties in meteorological driver data, lack of validation data, and potent
Fungal and bacterial recolonisation of acid and alkaline forest soils following artificial heat treatments
The direct response and the short-term recolonisation of soil by fungi and bacteria were studied after heat treatments of a humus soil with high carbon content and low pH. and a calcareous soil with lower carbon content and high pH. Heating was administered using a muffle furnace or an autoclave, with different temperatures and times of heat exposure, after which fresh soil (1%) was added as inocu
The influence of parasitic modes on beam dynamics for the European spallation source linac
The European Spallation Source (ESS) linac will consist of three families of superconducting RE cavities to accelerate protons to a final beam energy of 2.5 GeV for collision with the target. Beam induced HOMs in these cavities may drive the beam unstable and increase the cryogenic load, severely limiting the operation of the linac. The effect of these modes on the beam quality is investigated in
Parameter uncertainties in the modelling of vegetation dynamics — effects on tree community structure and ecosystem functioning in European forest biomes
Dynamic vegetation models are useful tools for analysing terrestrial ecosystem processes and their interactions with climate through variations in carbon and water exchange. Long-term changes in structure and composition (vegetation dynamics) caused by altered competitive strength between plant functional types (PFTs) are attracting increasing attention as controls on ecosystem functioning and pot
Increased risk of end-stage renal disease in individuals with coeliac disease
Objective The prevalence of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) is increasing worldwide. Although increased levels of coeliac disease (CD) autoantibodies are often seen in renal disease, the importance of biopsy-verified CD for the risk of future ESRD is unclear. The aim of this study was therefore to investigate the risk of future ESRD in individuals with CD. Methods This was a population-based prospe
Haemophilus influenzae Uses the Surface Protein E To Acquire Human Plasminogen and To Evade Innate Immunity
Pathogenic microbes acquire the human plasma protein plasminogen to their surface. In this article, we characterize binding of this important coagulation regulator to the respiratory pathogen nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae and identify the Haemophilus surface protein E (PE) as a new plasminogen-binding protein. Plasminogen binds dose dependently to intact bacteria and to purified PE. The plasm
Increased availability of NADH in metabolically engineered baker's yeast improves transaminase-oxidoreductase coupled asymmetric whole-cell bioconversion.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae can be engineered to perform a multitude of different chemical reactions that are not programmed in its original genetic code. It has a large potential to function as whole-cell biocatalyst for one-pot multistep synthesis of various organic molecules, and it may thus serve as a powerful alternative or complement to traditional organic synthetic routes for new chemical enti
The Logic of the Exception
Abstract in Danish Som regel forstår vi demokrati og diktatur som to adskilte regeringsformer. Actually, they are intertwined due to the state of exception and its inevitability for the political constitution. This concession frees of normative pre-conceptions of the political and leads us to the hypothesis that if we study the political beyond ideological skirmishes and narrative constructions we can co
A comparison of different initialization protocols to obtain statistically independent molecular dynamics simulations.
We study how the results of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are affected by various choices during the setup, e.g., the starting velocities, the solvation, the location of protons, the conformation of His, Asn, and Gln residues, the protonation and titration of His residues, and the treatment of alternative conformations. We estimate the binding affinity of ligands to four proteins calculated
Sparse Localization of Harmonic Audio Sources
In this paper, we propose a novel method for estimating the locations of near- and/or far-field harmonic audio sources impinging on an arbitrary, but calibrated, sensor array. Using a joint pitch and location estimation formed in two steps, we first estimate the fundamental frequencies and complex amplitudes under a sinusoidal model assumption, whereafter the location of each source is found by ut

An in situ set up for the detection of CO(2) from catalytic CO oxidation by using planar laser-induced fluorescence.
We report the first experiment carried out on an in situ setup, which allows for detection of CO(2) from catalytic CO oxidation close to a model catalyst under realistic reaction conditions by the means of planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) in the mid-infrared spectral range. The onset of the catalytic reaction as a function of temperature was followed by PLIF in a steady state flow reactor.
Fatigue testing and microstructural characterization of tungsten heavy alloy Densimet 185
A rotating target consisting of helium-cooled tungsten has been chosen for the European Spallation Source (ESS) facility to be built in Lund. Thermo-mechanical cycling due to the incidence of the proton beam every 2 s on any given tungsten slab in the rotating wheel could lead to crack formation and failure over the lifetime of the target. This work reports tensile and fatigue data obtained at roo
Optimal Correspondences from Pairwise Constraints
Correspondence problems are of great importance in computer vision. They appear as subtasks in many applications such as object recognition, merging partial 3D reconstructions and image alignment. Automatically matching features from appearance only is difficult and errors are frequent. Thus, it is necessary to use geometric consistency to remove incorrect correspondences. Typically heuristic meth
Using Supplemental Instruction to Bridge the Transition from Secondary to Tertiary Education
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is today a well known academic assistance program, providing help for students in “difficult” courses at colleges and universities. Little attention has been paid however to the possibility of also implementing the SI program in upper secondary school. In this study we present qualitative results from such an SI program in a Swedish setting. Here, students from the fa
Structural and Functional Analysis of the ApolipoproteinA-I A164S Variant.
Apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) is the main protein involved in the formation of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), it is the principal mediator of the reverse cholesterol transfer (RCT) pathway and provides cardio-protection. In addition to functional wild-type apoA-I, several variants have been shown to associate with hereditary amyloidosis. In this study we have performed biophysical and biochemical a
An analysis of evacuation travel paths on stair landings by means of conditional probabilities
This paper analyses data on occupants׳ movement on stair landings collected during an evacuation drill performed in a six-storey office building in the United States. A total of 215 occupant travel path trajectories were filmed and time on the stair landings and egress behaviours were analysed. Data were analysed using a probabilistic approach, i.e., the probability of different occupant travel pa
