Efficient Thomson Spectral Estimator with Time-shifted Windows

In this paper optimal spectral analysis window shapes, using weighted discrete prolate spheroidal sequences as basis functions, are proposed. These windows are not typically positive or even. The windows are time-shifted, combining the computational efficiency of the Welch method and the appealing property of predefined frequency resolution of the Thomson spectral estimator. The parameters of the

Hadronic τ Decays as New Physics Probes in the LHC Era

We analyze the sensitivity of hadronic τ decays to nonstandard interactions within the model-independent framework of the standard model effective field theory. Both exclusive and inclusive decays are studied, using the latest lattice data and QCD dispersion relations. We show that there are enough theoretically clean channels to disentangle all the effective couplings contributing to these decays

Patient satisfaction after unilateral oncoplastic volume displacement surgery for breast cancer, evaluated with the BREAST-Q™

Background: Oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery allows larger resections in unfavorable locations, with an improved chance of preserving esthetics. Indications and timing for potential contralateral surgery to obtain symmetry are not clear. The aim of this study was to evaluate patient satisfaction after unilateral oncoplastic volume displacement surgery, to investigate potential risk factors fo

The occurrence of comorbidities with affective and anxiety disorders among older people with intellectual disability compared with the general population : A register study

Background: Little is known regarding the burden of comorbidities among older people with intellectual disability (ID) who have affective and anxiety disorders. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the occurrence and risk of psychiatric and somatic comorbidities with affective and/or anxiety disorders in older people with ID compared to the general population. Methods: This population study was base

Lung Cancer Risk in Never-Smokers of European Descent is Associated With Genetic Variation in the 5p15.33 TERT-CLPTM1Ll Region

Introduction: Inherited susceptibility to lung cancer risk in never-smokers is poorly understood. The major reason for this gap in knowledge is that this disease is relatively uncommon (except in Asians), making it difficult to assemble an adequate study sample. In this study we conducted a genome-wide association study on the largest, to date, set of European-descent never-smokers with lung cance

Robust Self-calibration of Constant Offset Time-difference-of-arrival

In this paper we study the problem of estimating receiver and sender positions from time-difference-of-arrival measurements, assuming an unknown constant time-difference-of-arrival offset. This problem is relevant for example for repetitive sound events. In this paper it is shown that there are three minimal cases to the problem. One of these (the five receiver, five sender problem) is of particul

First Community-Wide, Comparative Cross-Linking Mass Spectrometry Study

The number of publications in the field of chemical cross-linking combined with mass spectrometry (XL-MS) to derive constraints for protein three-dimensional structure modeling and to probe protein-protein interactions has increased during the last years. As the technique is now becoming routine for in vitro and in vivo applications in proteomics and structural biology there is a pressing need to

Multiple scattering reduction in instantaneous gas phase phosphor thermometry : Applications with dispersed seeding

In this study the structured laser illumination planar imaging (SLIPI) technique is combined with gas phase phosphor thermometry to measure quasi-instantaneously two-dimensional temperature fields with reduced bias from multiple scattering. Different reconstruction strategies are implemented, evaluated and compared, including a two-pulse and one-pulse SLIPI approach. A gradient-based threshold alg

Vasoactive peptides in the skin.

The vascular effects of endogenous substances can be easily studied in the skin. Early in this century, vasoregulation was shown to be dependent on innervation. Peptidergic transmitters have been shown to co-exist and co-transmit along with noradrenalin and acetylcholine, sometimes being responsible for nonadrenergic-noncholinergic responses. This review summarizes recent information on vasoregula

Message from the Chairs : RTAS 2019

Presents the introductory welcome message from the conference proceedings. May include the conference officers' congratulations to all involved with the conference event and publication of the proceedings record.

Validation of a mathematical model for understanding intracranial pressure curve morphology

The physiology underlying the intracranial pressure (ICP) curve morphology is not fully understood. Recent research has suggested that the morphology could be dependent on arterial cerebral inflow and the physiological and pathophysiological properties of the intracranial cavity. If understood, the ICP curve could provide information about the patient’s cerebrovascular state important in individua

Search for low-mass resonances decaying into two jets and produced in association with a photon using pp collisions at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A search is performed for localised excesses in dijet mass distributions of low-dijet-mass events produced in association with a high transverse energy photon. The search uses up to 79.8 fb−1 of LHC proton–proton collisions collected by the ATLAS experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV during 2015–2017. Two variants are presented: one which makes no jet flavour requirements and one which r

Increased mortality among acute respiratory distress patients from immigrant dense urban districts

Purpose: This study investigated whether living in immigrant dense urban districts (IDUDs) and low-income areas in the city of Malmö predicted 5-year mortality among patients admitted to the emergency department (ED) because of acute respiratory distress. Patients and methods: We randomly selected 184 patients with acute respiratory distress during 2007, visiting the ED at Skåne University Hospita
