Starka belägg för att proffsboxning leder till kroniska hjärnskador. Ju fler slag mot huvudet under en boxares karriär, desto större är risken

The clinical symptomatology and pathogenic mechanisms of chronic traumatic brain injury associated with boxing (CTBI-B) is reviewed. This syndrome is also known as punch drunk syndrome or dementia pugilistica. Since even milder forms of CTBI-B are rare among amateur boxers, we make a distinction between amateur and professional boxing throughout the review. Focus is also set on the interesting sim

Textens ansikte i seklernas spegel : om litterära texter och typografisk form : anförande vid Svenska Vitterhetssamfundets årsmöte den 27 maj 1998

A materialized text shows many faces in the mirror of time. In every printing, how ordinary it may seem, the graphic structure given carries meaning over and below the linguistic. Examples from different editions of the Bible and of Swedish literature demonstrate how the face of a text has been adapted to changing reading habits and literary taste. Scholarly text editors though have generally disr

Dynamics of Picture Viewing and Picture Description.

In his book Visual thinking, Arnheim (1969) writes: ... cognitive operations called thinking are not the privilege of mental processes above and beyond perception but the essential ingredients of perception itself. I am referring to such operations as active exploration, selection, grasping of essentials, simplification, abstraction, analysis and synthesis, completion, correction, comparison, prob

Historical Archaeology in Sweden : from the Middle Ages to Modernity

The article outlines the origin and later transformation of Medieval Archaeology to Historical Archaeology, both as an antiquarian practice and as an academic subject, focusing on the development in Sweden since the 18th C. Where the concept of the Middle Ages defined the former subject, both its opportunities and its limitations, now Modernity has turned up as a new challenging concept. Archaeolo

Transient electromagnetic waves and inversion techniques

This paper reviews an efficient inversion technique for complex media utilizing transient electromagnetic scattering data. The approach to solve the scattering problems (direct and inverse) relies on a wave splitting technique and an invariant imbedding technique. The analysis is illustrated by a numerical example.

"Everydays" (A Progression Inspired by Jerome Kern)

Shortly before Christmas 2012, in a Beijing flea market and at a price, I was offered a cache of more than two thousand moth-eaten surveillance (“stake-out”) logs from the early 1950s emanating with the Bureau of Public Security in the city of Harbin, Manchuria. Unable to figure out what to do with them, I turned the offer down. Only later did it dawn on the historian in me that the logs just migh

Fosterbarn som vuxna

What are the social positions of adults who were in long-term foster care as children, compared with the general population and with adults who grew up at home in families similar to foster children's birth families? How common is it to have been in foster care? Four approaches are used in this study: - A systematic review of around 50 studies on adult foster children. Conclusions are more pessim

Company and court. Institutional change at Cirebon, 1681-1735

The article emphasizes the opportunities presented to local potentates provided by the establishment of the Dutch East India Company as de facto sovereignty over West Java. Those seizing the opportunities prospered as never before; those who did not went under. The process altered indelibly the fabric of Javanese society.

Discontinuous Bifurcations of Elasto-Plastic Solution at Plane Stress and Plane Strain

Conditions for discontinuous bifurcations of the incremental fields in elastic-platic materials subjected to the condition of either plane stress or plane strain are derived and explicit expressions for the critical hardening modulus and the corresponding bifurcation directions are obtained for a quite general class of plasticity models. The only restriction is that the gradients of the yield func

Craft specialization as an agent of social power in the south Scandinavian Neolithic

The ability to identify craft specialization in the archaeological record has wider ramifications for the study of prehistoric society, since it is apparent that there is a certain relationship between the organization of craft specialization and social complexity. It is fruitful to distinguish among 3 categories here: household production on the one hand, and attached and independent craft specia
