Signal Characterization of Atrial Arrhythmias using the Surface ECG

This doctoral thesis is comprised of five parts which deal with different signal processing problems in ECG-based characterization of atrial arrhythmias. Such characterization requires that the ventricular activity has first been cancelled in the ECG. In Part I, a new method for cancellation of the QRST complexes in recordings with atrial fibrillation is presented. The method is based on a spatiot

A linear algebra approach to minimal convolutional encoders

The authors review the work of G.D. Forney, Jr., on the algebraic structure of convolutional encoders upon which some new results regarding minimal convolutional encoders rest. An example is given of a basic convolutional encoding matrix whose number of abstract states is minimal over all equivalent encoding matrices. However, this encoding matrix can be realized with a minimal number of memory el

Lifetime measurements on the c '(1)(4)Sigma(+)(u), v=0, 1 and 2 states of molecular nitrogen

Excited state lifetimes of c(4)('1)Sigma (+)(u), upsilon = 0-2 states of molecular nitrogen have been determined in a laboratory investigation using a picosecond XUV laser in a pump-probe configuration. For c(4)('1)Sigma (+)(u) upsilon = 0 the lifetime is tau = 740 +/- 50 ps, for the lowest rotational states. For higher rotational states a gradual shift towards tau = 495 ps is found in agreement w

Rapid short-duration hypothermia with cold saline and endovascular cooling before reperfusion reduces microvascular obstruction and myocardial infarct size.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the combination of a rapid intravenous infusion of cold saline and endovascular hypothermia in a closed chest pig infarct model. METHODS: Pigs were randomized to pre-reperfusion hypothermia (n = 7), post-reperfusion hypothermia (n = 7) or normothermia (n = 5). A percutaneous coronary intervention balloon was inflated in the left anterior descending
