Face-to-Face, Buzz and Knowledge Bases: Socio-spatial implications for learning and innovation policy

While concurring with the new streams of literature in geography that highlight the importance of face-to-face and buzz in the globalizing learning economy, the article argues that this literature is misleading on three interrelated accounts. Firstly, it conflates face-to-face and buzz; secondly, it fails to distinguish between the importance of face-to-face and buzz for industries drawing on diff

The Churches of Bornholm in the Early Middle Ages: The architecture of the 15 12th-13th C churches of the island is seen as an expression of a feudal society dominated by king and archbishop. The towers are interpreted as local symbols of the feudal lordship, and the vaulted upper storeys as treasuries where the revenues - grain, pork, butter and herring - were stored.

Deep sequencing of uveal melanoma identifies a recurrent mutation in PLCB4.

Next generation sequencing of uveal melanoma (UM) samples has identified a number of recurrent oncogenic or loss-of-function mutations in key driver genes including: GNAQ, GNA11, EIF1AX, SF3B1 and BAP1. To search for additional driver mutations in this tumor type we carried out whole-genome or whole-exome sequencing of 28 tumors or primary cell lines. These samples have a low mutation burden, with

EU-gruppundantag med förhinder

Artikel presenterar det nya förslaget till gruppundantag för tekniklicensavtal och granskar om kommissionen lyckas i sitt uppsåt att främja och förenkla tekniksamverkan i Europa. Dagens rättsläge diskuteras i avsnitt II. I avsnitt III presenteras det senaste förslaget översiktligt och därefter behandlas det nya marknadsandelsförslaget. Construct validity of a health questionnaire intended to measure the subjective experience of health among patients in mental health services.

Mental health services have been lacking systematic health-promoting activities, and health is often perceived as the absence of disease from a biomedical perspective. It is vital to develop methods to assess perceived health among patients in a broader perspective. The aim of the study was to investigate construct validity of a newly developed health questionnaire intended to measure subjectively

Increased expression of upstream TH2-cytokines in a mouse model of viral-induced asthma exacerbation.

Exacerbations of asthma caused by respiratory viral infections are serious conditions in need of novel treatment. To this end animal models of asthma exacerbations are warranted. We have shown that dsRNA challenges or rhinoviral infection produce exacerbation effects in mice with ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic asthma. However, house dust mite (HDM) is a more human asthma-relevant allergen than O

Receptive Field Remodeling Induced by Skin Stimulation in Cerebellar Neurons in vivo.

The receptive field of a neuron reflects its function. For example, for parallel fiber (PF) inputs in C3 zone the cerebellar cortex, the excitatory and inhibitory receptive fields of a Purkinje cell (PC) have different locations, and each location has a specific relationship to the location of the climbing fiber (CF) receptive field of the PC. Previous studies have shown that this pattern of input

Thylakoids promote release of the satiety hormone cholecystokinin while reducing insulin in healthy humans.

Objective. The effects of a promising new appetite suppressor named "thylakoids" (membrane proteins derived from spinach leaves) were examined in a single meal in man. Thylakoids inhibit the lipase/colipase hydrolysis of triacylglycerols in vitro and suppress food intake, decrease body-weight gain and raise the satiety hormone cholecystokinin (CCK) in rats, but their effects in man remain unclear.
