Triclosan (TCS), an antimicrobial agent widely found in the aquatic environment, is suspected to act as an endocrine disrupting compound, however mechanistic information is lacking in regards to aquatic species. This study assessed the ability of TCS to interfere with estrogen receptor (ER) transcriptional activity, in zebrafish-specific in vitro and in vivo reporter gene assays. We report that TC
This thematic issue is devoted to how human service work may be influenced by accentuated administrative processes, as well as reinforced by digitalization, in contemporary society. The public sector has expanded the requirements of documentation, auditing and evaluation practices. Policy, problems and persons are shaped and enacted in meetings and documents. Meetings and documents comprise the fo
Resolution of interference between competing memories is often critical for remembering. This study employed multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA) of electroencephalographic (EEG) data to investigate the temporal dynamics of retrieval competition and competition resolution. Competition between memories was created through the AB/AC interference paradigm. Attosecond pulses allow for imaging of very fast processes, like electron dynamics. Stockman et al. suggested to use these pulses in connection with a Photoemission electron microscope (PEEM) to study the ultrafast dynamics of plasmons (Stockman et al. Nat Photonics 1:539–544, 2007). For efficient plasmon studies, the repetition rate of the attosecond pulses used needs to be higher than a few kHz
Dynamic quantum effects in biological systems is a hotly debated question, which since recently has been experiencing renewed wave of broad attention [1]. This discussion was initiated by the application of the multidimensional spectroscopy techniques for investigating dynamics in biological complexes. Is nature really optimized to use non-trivial quantum effects, like dynamically evolving coheren
It is a well‐known fact in scanning probe microscopy that the tip geometry will be convoluted with the shape of the sample. In this study we report on a clear‐cut in situ direct observation of the real shape of the atomic force microscopy (AFM) tip using the AFM technique itself, utilizing a specially designed sample. The sample was an array of columns fabricated using aerosol deposition of metal
OBJECTIVE: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a transient form of diabetes characterized by impaired insulin secretion and action during pregnancy. Population-based differences in prevalence exist which could be explained by phenotypic and genetic differences. The aim of this study was to examine these differences in pregnant women from Punjab, India and Scandinavia.METHODS: 85 GDM/T2D loci in
