Search for heavy Majorana or Dirac neutrinos and right-handed W gauge bosons in final states with two charged leptons and two jets at √s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
A search for heavy right-handed Majorana or Dirac neutrinos N R and heavy right-handed gauge bosons W R is performed in events with a pair of energetic electrons or muons, with the same or opposite electric charge, and two energetic jets. The events are selected from pp collision data with an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb −1 collected by the ATLAS detector at s=13 TeV. No significant deviations
Characterization of the enhancer and promoter landscape of inflammatory bowel disease from human colon biopsies
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic intestinal disorder, with two main types: Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), whose molecular pathology is not well understood. The majority of IBD-associated SNPs are located in non-coding regions and are hard to characterize since regulatory regions in IBD are not known. Here we profile transcription start sites (TSSs) and enhancers in

N,N-dimethylacrylamide—A new sensitizer in the FreeStyle Libre glucose sensor
Background: Isobornyl acrylate (IBOA) has recently been identified as one sensitizer in the FreeStyle Libre glucose sensor. Analyses with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) have indicated the presence of N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMAA) in the sensor. Material and methods: Seven patients were referred for patch testing after developing skin reactions when using FreeStyle Libre. All patients

Association of IRS1 genetic variants with glucose control and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetic patients from Bosnia and Herzegovina
Previous studies reported conflicting results regarding association of insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1) gene variation with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and insulin resistance (IR) in different ethnic groups. We examined the association of rs7578326, rs2943641, and rs4675095 in the IRS1 gene with T2D and related traits in a population from Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is one of the European countrie

Cavitating flow through a micro-orifice
Microfluidic systems have witnessed rapid development in recent years. As one of the most common structures, the micro-orifice is always included inside microfluidic systems. Hydrodynamic cavitation in the micro-orifice has been experimentally discovered and is harmful to microfluidic systems. This paper investigates cavitating flow through a micro-orifice. A rectangular micro-orifice with a l/d r

Patterns of hepatitis B virus S gene escape mutants and reverse transcriptase mutations among genotype D isolates in Jordan
Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is an important infectious cause of morbidity and mortality in Jordan. HBV genotype D is the most prevalent in the country. Virus escape mutants in the HBV S region is an important public health problem halting preventive efforts. The aim of the current study was to investigate patterns of HBV escape and resistance mutations and to assess domestic transmission o

Sexually violent effervescence : Understanding sexual assault among youth
Based on interviews with 104 young partygoers, this article examines sexual assaults that occur in the context of festive events. Focus is on how individuals describe their sexual victimization. Three experiential characteristics stand out in the victims’ accounts. First, the assaults are described as being characterized by an altered state of consciousness, primarily alcohol-related intoxication.
Bartenders as street-level bureaucrats : theorizing server practices in the nighttime economy
Most Western countries have laws that prohibit the serving of alcohol to intoxicated and underage patrons in nightlife venues such as pubs and nightclubs. Despite laws and the implementation of server training programs, several studies have shown that intoxicated patrons are still likely to be served. This think-piece article attempts to shed new light on the tendency among bartenders to overserve
The pleasures of drunken one-night stands : Assemblage theory and narrative environments
Background In this study, we use assemblage theory to investigate the link between alcohol use and one-night stands. Methods The data come from qualitative interviews conducted with 104 young participants in the night-time economy. Results We show that: (i) alcohol-fuelled sexual explorations (e.g. erotic fantasizing, flirting and sex) are of paramount importance for young partygoers; (ii) sexuali
Departies : conceptualizing extended youth parties
Every year, millions of young people travel away from home to party for days or weeks on end in permissive environments, such as music festivals, dance parties, and nightlife resorts. The studies that have been conducted on these extended youth parties have focused primarily on specific risk-taking behaviors, such as drug use and violence. Here, we scrutinize the research on extended youth parties
Pub crawls at a Bulgarian nightlife resort : A case study using crowd theory
Drawing on the classical crowd theories of Tarde, Le Bon, Durkheim, and Canetti, this article examines pub crawl crowds at the Bulgarian nightlife resort, Sunny Beach. The article argues that there are elements in classical crowd theory which can be used to advance the current research on tourist crowds such as those at pub crawls. The main strength of the theories lies in their ability to bring u
