A Fixed-Point Problem for Theories of Meaning
In this paper I argue that it’s impossible for there to be a single universal theory of meaning for a language. First, I will consider some minimal expressiveness requirements a language must meet to be able to express semantic claims. Then I will argue that in order to have a single unified theory of meaning, these expressiveness requirements must be satisfied by a language which the semantic the

Idac-alpha : An alpha dosimetry software for normal organs and tissues
Radiopharmaceuticals have been used for the treatment of various forms of cancer since the 1940s. In recent years, the advantages of alpha emitting radionuclides have emerged as a favourable treatment option. However, most alpha emitting radionuclides have long decay chains with long-lived daughter radionuclides. This leads to uncertainties in the dosimetry for normal organs and tissues, when esta
Measuring and interpreting pervasive heterogeneity, poikilosis
Measurements are widely used in science, engineering, industry, and trade. They form the basis for experimental scientific research, approach, and progress; however, their foundations are seldom thought or questioned. Recently poikilosis, pervasive heterogeneity ranging from subatomic level to biosphere, was introduced. Poikilosis makes single point measurements and estimates obsolete and irreleva

How to Take Over and Revise a Medical Ethnology Course in the Post-Everything Era
Nearly all university lectures have faced the challenges of taking over a course from colleagues. Yet the conceptual and practical challenges of this process are rarely discussed in higher education. In this article, I describe my experiences of becoming the course convenor of an existing medical ethnology course and revising it. The first challenge was to make the course my own, while also mainta

The Relationship between Heart Rate and Body Temperature in Critically Ill Patients
OBJECTIVE: The presence of tachycardia in critically ill patients is frequently used as an indication of severity of illness and to guide treatment decisions but can be influenced by body temperature, thus confounding its interpretation. There are few data available on the relationship between body temperature and heart rate in critically ill patients. DESIGN: Retrospective analysis of prospective
