NEW PARTITION IDENTITIES FROM C(1) -MODULES

In this paper we conjecture combinatorial Rogers-Ramanujan type colored partition identities related to standard representations of the affine Lie algebra of type C(1) ℓ, ℓ ≥ 2, and we conjecture similar colored partition identities with no obvious connection to representation theory of affine Lie algebras.

Roles of unconventional ion channels and insulin granule structure in the pathogenesis of type-2 diabetes

T2D is the most widespread endocrine disease. In conventional stimulus secretion coupling increased blood glucose is metabolized causing an increased intracellular level of ATP and closure of the KATP channels, and this, in turn, depolarizes the cell membrane leading to the opening of voltage-gated Ca2+ channels, the influx of Ca2+ and exocytosis of insulin granules. This model has become almost a

An Economic Model for Estimating Trial Costs with an Application to Placebo Surgery Trials

Background and Objective: Waste in clinical trials remains rife. We developed an economic model to predict the cost of trials based on input costs, duration, power, number of sites, recruitment eligibility and consenting rates. Methods: We parameterised the model for three proxy placebo-controlled surgical trials using data from a systematic review, a bespoke cost survey, and from the literature.

One way to do this is to discuss cases together. Based on research on governance and control of the public sector and the advantages of case pedagogy, the authors discuss what can facilitate or hinder the realization of political decisions

Genomic studies of sex differences : On mutations, recombination, and sexual antagonism in songbirds

Many organisms have separate sexes, i.e., males and females. The presence of separate sexes causes sex-specific selection regimes and sexual antagonism, which can lead to sex differences in morphology, physiology, and behaviours. Sex and sex differences can be genetically governed and regulated by a pair of sex chromosomes (e.g., X and Y, or Z and W), on which there often are regions without recom

Health-related quality of life as associated with asthma control, psychological status and insomnia

Background: Asthma is associated not only with lower health-related quality of life (HRQL) but also with psychological health and insomnia. The aim of this study was to investigate associations between HRQL, asthma symptoms, psychological status and insomnia in adults from three Nordic countries. Methods: This study comprised 2,270 subjects aged 29-55 from Sweden, Iceland and Norway. HRQL was meas

Studying the Postwar City Through Urban Conflicts over Peace(s)

This chapter theorises the postwar city in order to enable its study. It first theorises the postwar as not the given and linear transition from war to a universal and objective peace, but rather as permeated by conflicts over peace(s) in which heterogeneous and subjective peace(s) strive to socio-politically order society in diametrically different ways. The city is then theorised as constituted

Contesting Postwar Mitrovica

This chapter employs governmentality on postwar Mitrovica (Kosovo) to understand how different governing attempts structure the field of possible acts for collectives in its urban conflicts over peace(s). The first line of analysis explores how Belgrade uses its parallel institutions—which encompass everything from healthcare and education to undercover police and criminal networks—to enable, enco

Three Approaches to Urban Conflicts over Peace(s)

This chapter first argues that urban conflicts over peace(s) in the postwar city should be studied through the acts, governing, and spaces underpinning them. It then theorises negotiating agency, governmentality, and relational space as concepts apt for analysing these dimensions. Negotiating agency sees acts are the result of open-ended and constantly on-going negotiations between the subject and

Contesting Postwar Mostar

This chapter employs negotiating agency on postwar Mostar (Bosnia-Herzegovina) to understand acts come about in its urban conflicts over peace(s). The first line of analysis uses a feature film about the city to explore the negotiation between Slavko (who wants to act in line with the coexisting peace) and a world that enforces the ethnonational—Bosniak and Croat—peace(s). The generated insights o

Obduktion och mjuka texter : Shared Reading som metod på universitetet

This chapter discusses how Shared Reading (SR) can be used as a method when teaching university students in professional education. Drawing on experiences from both the Medical School and the Creative Writing Program, the chapter shows how SR can be used to enhance professional development in two different settings. In Medical School, SR is used to create a space for exploration of relational and

An emerging governmentality of climate change loss and damage

Loss and damage is the “third pillar” of international climate governance alongside mitigation and adaptation. When mitigation and adaptation fail, losses and damages occur. Scholars have been reacting to international political discourse centred around governing actual or potential severe losses and damages from climate change. Large gaps exist in relation to understanding the underlying power di

Diagnostic performance of biomarker S100B and guideline adherence in routine care of mild head trauma

BackgroundThe Scandinavian Neurotrauma Committee (SNC) has recommended the use of serum S100B as a biomarker for mild low-risk Traumatic brain injuries (TBI). This study aimed to assess the adherence to the SNC guidelines in clinical practice and the diagnostic performance of S100B in patients with TBI. The aims of this study were to examine adherence to the SNC guideline and the diagnostic accura

Clinical characteristics, impairment, and psychiatric morbidity in 102 youth with misophonia

BackgroundThere is little information on the clinical presentation, functional impact, and psychiatric characteristics of misophonia in youth, an increasingly recognized syndrome characterized by high emotional reactivity to certain sounds and associated visual stimuli.MethodOne-hundred-two youth (8–17 years-old) with misophonia and their parents were recruited and compared with 94 youth with anxi

Measuring symptoms of obsessive-compulsive and related disorders using a single dimensional self-report scale

Background: Obsessions and compulsions are heterogenous but can be classified into obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), hoarding disorder (HD), hair-pulling disorder (HPD), and skin-picking disorder (SPD). OCD is in itself heterogenous, with symptoms clustering around four major symptom dimensions: contamination/cleaning, symmetry/ordering, taboo obsessions, and har
