Factors influencing resident's estimate of traffic-related phenomena in their street
This paper examines whether a resident's estimate of five traffic-related phenomena (accident frequency, incident frequency, difficulty of crossing the street, traffic flow, and speed level) in their neighborhood may depend on factors such as gender, age, how frequently they walk along the street or on characteristics of the street. The material consists of survey data from 919 residents living al
Nordic social workers' assessments of child welfare problems and interventions: a common model in child welfare?
Coenzyme A-acylating propionaldehyde dehydrogenase (PduP) from Lactobacillus reuteri: Kinetic characterization and molecular modeling.
3-Hydroxypropionic acid (3-HP), an important C3 chemical for a bio-based industry, is natively produced by Lactobacillus reuteri from glycerol. Conversion of glycerol occurs via the intermediate 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde (3-HPA), followed by an ATP-producing pathway initiated by the CoA-acylating propionaldehyde dehydrogenase (PduP). The pduP gene of L. reuteri was cloned and expressed in Escherich
Horizontal and vertical target efficiency - a comparison between users and non-users of public long-term care in Sweden
The extent to which a system of services is in tune with the needs of the population can be expressed in terms of target efficiency, which includes horizontal target efficiency - the extent to which those deemed to need a service receive it - and vertical target efficiency - the corresponding extent to which those who receive a service actually need it. Vertical efficiency can be measured by looki
Deformation, warming and softening of Greenland’s ice by refreezing meltwater
Meltwater beneath the large ice sheets can influence ice flow by lubrication at the base or by softening when meltwater refreezes to form relatively warm ice. Refreezing has produced large basal ice units in East Antarctica. Bubble-free basal ice units also outcrop at the edge of the Greenland ice sheet5, but the extent of refreezing and its influence on Greenland’s ice flow dynamics are unknown.
Constructal design and thermal analysis of microchannel heat sinks with multistage bifurcations in single-phase liquid flow
Based on constructal theory, five different cases with multistage bifurcations are designed as well as one case without bifurcations, and the corresponding laminar fluid flow and thermal performance have been investigated numerically. All laminar fluid flow and heat transfer results are obtained using computation fluid dynamics, and a uniform wall heat flux thermal boundary condition is applied al
The tagged photon facility at the MAX IV Laboratory
The upgraded tagged photon facility at the MAX IV Laboratory is presented. The pulsed electron beam from a linac system is stretched in the MAX I ring and the electron beam hits a thin aluminium foil in which bremsstrahlung is produced. One of two available magnetic spectrometers is used to determine the energy of the post-bremsstrahlung electrons. The tagged photon ranges from 10 to 180 MeV with
Predictors of valued everyday occupations, empowerment and satisfaction in day centres: implications for services for persons with psychiatric disabilities.
This study addresses predictors of occupational value, empowerment and satisfaction with the rehabilitation received in day centres for people with psychiatric disabilities. These outcomes represent varying aspects of relevance for the day centre context and together create a manifold outcome picture. This was a longitudinal study with approval from the regional research vetting board. Self-report
Phase Measurement of Resonant Two-Photon Ionization in Helium
We study resonant two-color two-photon ionization of helium via the 1s3p P-1(1) state. The first color is the 15th harmonic of a tunable Ti:sapphire laser, while the second color is the fundamental laser radiation. Our method uses phase-locked high-order harmonics to determine the phase of the two-photon process by interferometry. The measurement of the two-photon ionization phase variation as a f
Serum concentrations of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and a polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) in men from Greenland, Poland and Ukraine
Many brominated flame retardants (BFRs)-including polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs)-have been shown to persist in the environment, and some have been associated with adverse health effects. The aim of the present study was to quantify serum concentrations of common brominated flame retardants in Inuit men from across Greenland, and in men from Warsaw, Poland and Kharkiv, Ukraine. Serum was sa

The core of after death care in relation to organ donation - A grounded theory study.
The aim of this study was to investigate how intensive and critical care nurses experience and deal with after death care i.e. the period from notification of a possible brain dead person, and thereby a possible organ donor, to the time of post-mortem farewell.
Prospects for detecting decreasing exoplanet frequency with main-sequence age using PLATO
The space mission PLATO will usher in a new era of exoplanetary science by expanding our current inventory of transiting systems and constraining host star ages, which are currently highly uncertain. This capability might allow PLATO to detect changes in planetary system architecture with time, particularly because planetary scattering due to Lagrange instability may be triggered long after the sy
Optimization for Multi-Region Segmentation of Cardiac MRI
We introduce a new multi-region model for simultaneous segmentation of the left and right ventricles, myocardium and the left ventricular papillary muscles in MRI. The model enforces geometric constraints such as inclusion and exclusion between the regions, which makes it possible to correctly segment different regions even though the intensity distributions are identical. We efficiently optimize
Transgenerational effects of caloric restriction on appetite: a meta-analysis
Maternal undernutrition can result in significant alterations to the post-natal offspring phenotype, including body size and behaviour. For example, maternal food restriction has been implicated in offspring hyperphagia, potentially causing increased weight gain and fat accumulation. This could result in obesity and other adverse long-term health effects in offspring. We investigated the link betw
Gene expression identifies heterogeneity of metastatic propensity in high-grade soft tissue sarcomas
BACKGROUND: Metastatic propensity of soft tissue sarcoma (STS) is heterogeneous and may be determined by gene expression patterns that do not correlate well with morphology. The authors have reported gene expression patterns that distinguish 2 broad classes of clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC-gene set), and other patterns that can distinguish heterogeneity of serous ovarian carcinoma (OVCA-gene s
Consideration of the Impact of Reperfusion Therapy on the Quantitative Relationship between the Selvester QRS Score and Infarct Size by Cardiac MRI
Methods: Twenty-seven patients with acute first-time reperfused MI were studied. Infarct size was determined by delayed contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DE-MRI) and estimated with the 50-criteria/31-point Selvester QRS scoring system 1 week after admission. The findings in the present study were compared with previous postmortem studies exploring the quantitative relationship between
Assessment and modification of sub-cell-fix method for re-initialization of level-set distance function
Sub-cell-fix re-initialization method was proposed by Russo and Smereka (J. Comput. Phys. 2000; 163: 51-67) as a modification to the re-distancing, algorithm Of Sussman et al. (J. Comput. Phys. 1994; 114: 146-159) that determines the distance function from an interface known as the zero level-set. The principal goal of sub-cell-fix method is to compute the distance function of the cells adjacent t
Smoking and Schizophrenia in Population Cohorts of Swedish Women and Men: A Prospective Co-Relative Control Study.
The purpose of this study was to clarify the causes of the smoking-schizophrenia association.
