The essay discusses different aspects of the market for fish from the Baltic Sea. The first chapter introduces the subject and discusses why the market for fish is interesting and in particular why analyses of first-hand market prices can give insights into the effects of new regulations or natural variations changing the conditions for fisheries. Prices of different attributes of Baltic cod is

China has since the 1980s emerged as one of the world’s largest economies and the main emitter of carbon dioxide. Any attempt to combat global warming at the global level is therefore dependent on the future trajectory of Chinese emissions. In this paper we consider the effect of firm ownership on provincial emissions. The hypothesis is that private firms are economically more efficient than non-p

The content of this thesis consists of two parts. For the first part, size and crystallographic orientational influence on the elastic properties of bcc nanowires and films have been studied through static molecular simulations. In order to explicitly account for surface effects, the concept of surface free energy has been employed. Comparisons between continuum mechanical calculations and results

This paper concerns propagation of transient electromagnetic waves in laterally discontinuous dispersive media. The approach, used here, employs a component decomposition of all fields. Specifically, the propagation operator that maps a transverse field on one plane to another plane is specified. Expansion of this mapping near the wave front determines the precursor or forerunner of the problem.

This thesis explores the possibility of using advanced device geometries and heterostructure engineering to manipulate, control, and study the electrical and optical properties of semiconductor nanowires. The first part of the thesis investigates the use of different gate-all-around architectures for creating new types of gate-controlled nanowire devices, primarily intended for fundamental studies
