Krigen som inte blev av : Sveriges fredliga officerskår vid 1800-talets mitt

Abstract Sweden has experienced a dramatic change from being a belligerent greatpower in the 17th and 18th centuries to becoming a peaceful small nation in the 19th and 20th centuries. The country has not been involved in war for over 180 years. Modern Sweden has established more or less peaceful relations with other countries. This thesis focuses on the 19th century as beeing an important period

Insights Into Protein Synthesis - Structural Aspects of Elongation Factor G and Fusidic Acid Inhibition

Elongation factor G (EF-G) catalyses the translocation step in protein synthesis on the ribosome. During this event the antibiotic Fusidic acid (FA) binds to and irreversably inhibits the release of the EF-G:GDP complex from the ribosome. The difficulties to elucidate the exact binding mechanism of FA to the EF-G:GDP:ribosome complex are due to the fact that FA only binds to EF-G when the factor i

Technoscience comes to Lund : ESS and the Enlightenment Vision

In 2019 the first neutrons will be fired at the ESS plant, at least to its present plan, located in the outskirts of Lund, the brightest neutron facility in the world. In the scientists’ self-images, this kind of high technology and international cooperative knowledge production is entitled Big Science or Global Science. The concept “technoscience” isn’t used. This chapter will discuss if the conc

Gender in Contemporary Iran

This book examines gender and the dynamics of social change in contemporary Iran, documenting the changes in women's lives and showing how women now have become agents of social change rather than victims. Bringing together the detailed primary research of a number of eminent scholars working in Iran, this collection provides unique perspectives on the past decade in Iranian society and explores t

Development of Techniques for 3D Imaging with Focused Ion Beams - Hydrogen Depth Profiling and Microtomography with Applications in Geology

In nuclear microprobe experiments, high resolution maps of the measured parameter, e.g. element- or mass distribution, in a sample can be produced with a variety of ion beam analytical techniques. The principle underlying all the techniques is that ions at MeV energies are used as projectiles to cause interactions with the target material. Because of the limited range of ions in matter, there is a

Validation in the context of discovery and the context of justification in psychological research

The aim of this chapter is to contribute to the debate by arguing for an approach to validity in which (1) the domain of discovery and the domain of justification are brought together and are seen as being intertwined in a transactional sense, (2) the justification process is seen to be endowed with an experimential and a contextual dimension, and (3) a pro¬ces¬sual, historical pespective is thus

A 30dBm PA for MTC Communication in 65nm CMOS Technology

In this paper the feasibility of using a fully integrated 65nm CMOS PA in future machine-type communication standards has been investigated. The integrated PA investigated shows a linear output power in VSWR 2:1 of minimum 24dBm. A VSWR of 2:1 with an associated 3.1dB front-end insertion loss corresponds to a VSWR of 5:1 at the antenna, which is a conservative number. The PAE at 1dB compression po

The Culture of Information Systems in Knowledge-Creating Contexts: The Role of User-Centred Design

Examining communities in all their meanings, the paper locates User- Centred Design (UCD) in the amplified scope of approaches to Information Systems Design (ISD). Culture in communities is explained in structurational terms, in which human action and social structure (including ICT) interact to produce and reproduce the social patterning that both supports and constrains action. The widening of t

Output Feedback Adaptive Control of Robot Manipulators Using Observer Backstepping

In this paper we present an observer-based adaptive control scheme for robot manipulators, for which we have both unmeasured velocity and uncertain parameters. Using the observer back-stepping method, a reduced-order adaptive velocity observer can be designed independently from the state-feedback controller, which uses damping terms to compensate the presence of the estimation error in the trackin

The Optical Model of The Nucleus. An Indexed and Abstracted Literature Review

All available literature, dealing with optical model calculations, has been reviewed to aid in assessing suitable well parameters and to indicate when the model has been successful in predicting various nuclear data. The material investigated has been indexed according to nuclide, and short abstracts have been prepared to provide a concise summary of the contents and main results. 342 references w

From Husserl to Ihde and Beyond - Some Evolutionary Lines in Contemporary Philosophy of Technology

My paper is the introduction to my next book in the series 'The humanist as Engineer'. In my work, I have been deeply influenced by Don Ihde and his postphenomenological approach to the philosophy of technology. As Ihde’s postphenomenology, my approach is historical and differs strongly from the 'pure' phenomenological approach in spite of being connected with it through many common references. In
