Beskrivning

The Centre for Languages and Literature is offering all international students the opportunity to learn some Swedish this coming semester. The course  runs with halftime course load. The course is given with weekly daytime classes, and additional course work online.

Learning Swedish

The course Swedish for Students with a Foreign Background: Level 1 (7.5 credits) is designed for those who are interested in acquiring and developing a Swedish language skill and are interested in taking a language course with a rapid progression. The course is held partly at the Centre of Languages and Literature with classes once a week and partly as a distance-learning course making use of online communication.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Ask and respond to simple, routine and predictable questions
  • Write short sentences with simple phrases about topics that are familiar to you
  • Understand when someone speaks slowly about familiar topics
  • Read a simple text with high frequency words
  • Show some control over basic grammatical structures

The workload will be as demanding as other regular courses.

Requirements

The course requires basic eligibility for university studies, with the exception of Swedish. To show that you fulfill the requirements, you need to send in your Higher secondary school diploma and transcript. You may also need send in proof of proficiency in English (corresponding to English course 6 in the Swedish upper secondary school) by means of an internationally recognised test, e.g. TOEFL, IELTS or the equivalent.

Tuition fee

Course tuition fee: SEK 13 750

There are no tuition fees for citizens of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland. Citizens of a country outside of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are required to pay tuition fees.  If you are required to pay tuition fees, you are generally also required to pay an application fee of SEK 900 (approximately EUR 100) when you apply. If you are registered for a course or programme in Sweden when you submit your application, you are not required to pay an application fee; however, registration status does not exempt students from paying tuition fees and, as such, you may still be required to pay them.

International student?

Make your application in the First Admission Round at universityadmissions.se.

Application period October–January for autumn semester and June–August for spring semester.

First or Second Admission Round?

All international students are encouraged to apply to the First admission round. This round takes place many months before the start of a semester and gives students the time they need to pay their tuition fees, apply for and receive their residence permit (if required), find housing, etc.

The Second admission round is an alternative for students from EU/EEA countries as they do not need a residence permit. Non-EU/EEA students will most likely not have enough time to obtain their permit before the start of the semester. However, even EU/EEA students are advised to apply during the First admission round, as some programmes can be applied for only in the January round. Also, this provides applicants with an admission decision much earlier, which is helpful in making decisions about their studies.
