Access to Cross-Border Healthcare for Older Persons in the European Union : The Interplay between EU Law and Swedish Law

This thesis deals with older persons on the move and their access to cross-border healthcare in the European Union. The number of persons crossing borders within the EU has increased exponentially in recent decades. Free movement has been at the core of the European integration project from its early days. Although it was originally intended to apply only to those who were economically active, theThis thesis deals with older persons on the move and their access to cross-border healthcare in the European Union. Age differences in night-time metabolic rate and body temperature in a small passerine

Spending the winter in northern climes with short days and cold ambient temperatures (Ta) can be energetically challenging for small birds that have high metabolic and heat loss rates. Hence, maintaining body temperature (Tb) in Ta below thermoneutrality can be energetically costly for a small bird. We still know little about how increased heat production below thermoneutrality affects the level aSpending the winter in northern climes with short days and cold ambient temperatures (Ta) can be energetically challenging for small birds that have high metabolic and heat loss rates. IMPROVED SIZE HOMOGENEITY OF INP-ON-GAINP STRANSKI-KRASTANOW ISLANDS BY GROWTH ON A THIN GAP INTERFACE LAYER

Coherent InP nano-sized islands, embedded into GaInP, have been grown by metal-organic vapour phase epitaxy using the Stranski-Krastanow growth mode. Photoluminescence, atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy studies show that the insertion of a thin similar to 4 monolayer thick GaP layer affects the critical thickness of the subsequently deposited two-dimensional InP wetting Coherent InP nano-sized islands, embedded into GaInP, have been grown by metal-organic vapour phase epitaxy using the Stranski-Krastanow growth mode. Supported Mono- and Bimetallic Gold Nanoparticle Catalysts for Different Organic Transformations

“Catalysis” is a field of science that relates to the increase of the rate of a chemicalreaction through the involvement of an additional substance, known as “catalyst”,which acts without being consumed. Among all known types, heterogeneous catalysis, where the catalyst is in different phase than the reactants, plays a pivotal role in the sustainable development of the modern society with its domiSupported gold nanoparticles are emerging as an important class of catalysts for various organic transformations due to their tunable properties. This thesis embraces the fundamental studies of supported gold nanoparticles for different organic reactions from the viewpoint of understanding the role of synthesis methods, nature of carriers, and addition of second metal on the properties and functio

Knowledge-carrying objects in learning situations

This study aims to explore the scope of ‘knowledge-carrying’ objects in learning situations. The studyis based on a qualitative content analysis of a design project conducted in a science centre for childrenaged 7-10 years, learning about polymers and circularity. The design project is based on researchthrough design and has been an iterative process where design experiments and observations werei

Coarse-Grained Models of Ionic Solutions

Room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) are compounds composed entirely of ions, which are liquid at temperatures below 100 degrees Celsius. Their high ionic strength and strong coupling make them useful for a number of applications, e.g. as electrolytes in supercapacitors. These properties also make them interesting subjects for theoretical research, as the canonical theories of the electrical dou

Aspects on arterial dimensions with special reference to aneurysmal disease

Behandling med graftrekonstrukThe incidence of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) is increasing. The risk of rupture is related to diameter. However, rupture may occur also in small AAA. To evaluate the size of an aneurysm when related to the predicted normal aortic diameter might be a better predictor of risk. AAA:s, range 40-55 mm were studied in relation to gender. No difference in AAA diameter was found. However, body surfac

Nutritional effects of barley products — Mechanisms of action in the intestinal tract

Popular Abstract in English There is a growing prevalence of disorders associated to the metabolic syndrome globally. To reverse this trend lifestyle changes are required. Among dietary factors, dietary fibre that is associated with several health benefits plays an interesting role. Barley is highly unutilized as human food, and it contains high amounts of dietary fibre. The composition of the barBarley is one of the most important crops in the world. Although it is mainly used as the raw material for the production of beer and animal feed, it has recently attracted interest from nutritionists and consumers, due to its high content of dietary fibre, especially β-glucan, and its relation to various positive health effects. The proposed mechanisms behind the health effects are the formation

Supercompatibilism and Free Will

There is a fact of the matter about the nature of the human will and whether it can be considered ‘free’. To investigate this fact is attempting to answer what can be termed the metaphysical question of free will (M-question). The M-question is not identical to the problem of free will. ‘The problem of free will’ is often presented as one of two distinct problems (or sometimes a combination of the

Carbon isotope values of hazelnut shells: a new proxy for canopy density

Hazel (Corylus avellana) has been abundant in the vegetation of northern and central Europe since the early Holocene and has provided food and materials for humans ever since. Here we use stable carbon isotope (δ13C) values of hazelnut shells to infer woodland openness based on the premise of the “canopy effect”. It is well established that plants growing in dense, shaded forests have lower carbon

Exploring Individuals' Perceptions of the Sustainability Impact on Electric Car usage in Sweden

This thesis investigates how individuals in Sweden perceive the sustainability of electric car usage, using the Triple Bottom Line framework, which encompasses environmental, economic, and social dimensions. The primary aim is to gain insight into the genuine sustainability intentions of electric car users and to understand how they interpret sustainability not only in terms of environmental i

For this reason, an arbitral award cannot be challenged on substantive grounds. Unlike many foreign arbitration laws, a party may bring an action for invalidity or an action to set aside an arbitral award, in whole or in part, if the arbitral tribunal has failed to comply with procedur

Unequal lands : Soil type, nutrition, and child mortality in southern Sweden, 1850-1914

Background: Child mortality differed greatly within rural regions in Europe before and during the mortality transition. Little is known about the role of nutrition in such geographic differences, and about the factors affecting the nutritional status and hence the disease outcomes. Objective: Focusing on nutrition, we analyse the effects of soil type, used as an indicator of the farm-level agricultBackground: Child mortality differed greatly within rural regions in Europe before and during the mortality transition. To identify what is behind the Visegrad Groups different positions the theory spring fr

Culture and trade facilitation: How our values determine the effectiveness of trade institutions

In recent years new ways to deal with trade barriers, aside from the traditional tariff and quota reductions, has been introduced to trade negotiations. These have the collective name of trade facilitation and focuses on the less visible parts of barriers to trade. As this started to be discussed in policy circles economic research picked up interest as well. However, focus in the research has bee
