Monte Carlo simulations of the Elekta SLi Plus electron applicator system A base for a new applicator design to reduce radiation leakage

In this report the characteristics of the electron applicator system for an Elekta SLi Plus linear accelerator have been studied. The investigation will serve as a basis for a new applicator design that will give less radiation leakage. The present applicator system does not fully comply with the recommendations of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Standards recording radiation l

Brott & Internationellt skydd - En studie om uteslutande från rätten till asyl

The aim of this essay is to investigate and analyze the term exlusion and the difference between exclusion and non-exclusion from refugee status and alternative protection status according to swedish asylum law and jurisprudence, and how the application of national law corresponds to international doctrine and guidlines. During the course of this essay it has been detected that when trying to draw

Long-term Specialization and Trade Flow Patterns of Heavy Industrial and Light Industrial Goods: A Comparative Analysis of Anglophone and Nordic countries

Recent studies focusing on the analysis of emissions embodied in trade have shown that high-income countries are increasingly becoming net importers of emissions. This is commonly explained by the economies’ changing trade specialization in heavy and light industrial goods. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and compare the trade specialization patterns of twelve Anglophone and Nordic co

When Sovereignty and Solidarity Collide - The European migration-security nexus

The aftermath of the European Union’s ‘migration crisis’ in 2014-2016 continues to challenge the European security discourse, marked by a dilemma of securing the internal Member States political, societal and economic sector, whilst providing human security for forced migrants in accordance with international obligations. This thesis therefore aims to elucidate the dynamic between state security a

Comparative study between numerical and analytical groundwater modelling

This study compares analytical and numerical models for groundwater modelling. The focus of comparison is to investigate the change of the analytical results when there is only a partial penetration of the aquifer. Two methods of comparison are used, the first one consisting of calculating a radial distance from a shaft to the point where the drawdown is 0.3 meters with both models. The second metCan pen and paper groundwater models compete with computer programs? Could something as simple as a pen and paper equation on the back of an envelope compete with advanced and expensive computer programs? Surprisingly, the answer could be yes for sandy soils. When modelling how a construction project will affect the groundwater surface, it’s easy to assume that the more advanced the model is, the

Designing a performance measurement framework to support decision-making in green transportation

Though there currently exists numerous ways and suggestions of how to measure emissions in transportation, companies struggle to accurately quantify their greenhouse gas emissions to make sound and green decisions. It is difficult to determine what to measure, how to measure and why to measure in a certain way. Hence, the purpose of this master thesis was to develop a performance measurement frame

IL-25 and B cells in atherosclerosis

Popular Abstract in English Atherosclerosis is a disease of medium and large sized vessels of our bodies that is mainly characterized by the deposition of lipids in the vessel walls. Increased lipid levels in the blood of an individual, because of lifestyle habits but also because of genetics, can lead to the formation of an “atherosclerotic plaque”. Thus, although lipids are important for the norAtherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of medium and large vessels of the body which is mainly characterized by the formation of lipid rich plaques within the arterial tissue. It is the most common cause of cardiovascular disease leading to clinical manifestations of coronary artery and cerebrovascular disease. Immune responses targeting modified low density lipoprotein (LDL) play an im

An Evaluation of Potential Benefits of Mobile BI

The new generation of mobile devices, such smartphones and tablets, make users no longer constrained to traditional devices, such as PCs and laptops, in order to access needed information. This has given rise to an innovation in Business Intelligence (BI) coined mobile BI, which is currently embraced by different organizations. Information systems (IS) innovations are in general accompanied by “bu

Reasons Pro et Contra as a Debiasing Technique in Legal Contexts

Although legal contexts are subject to biased reasoning and decision making, to identify and test debiasing techniques has largely remained an open task. We report on experimentally deploying the technique “giving reasons pro et contra” with professional (N = 239) and lay judges (N = 372) at Swedish municipal courts. Using a mock legal scenario, participants assessed the relevance of an eyewitness

Disentangling social workers’ judgements and rationales: A study of the actual use of knowledge in diagnosis and treatment

One of the central assumptions of modernity is that the problems faced by society are best resolved through the use of scientific knowledge. Indeed, during the past century, the professions have both become certified and expected to base their work on this form of knowledge. In contemporary social work, this assumption is embedded in the notion of evidence-based practice, which has become the lead

The Potential Catalytic Role of Green Entrepreneurship – Technological Eco–Innovations and Ecopreneurs’ Acts – in the Structural Transformation to a Low–Carbon or Green Economy: A Foucauldian Discursive Approach

Green entrepreneurship – technological eco–innovations and ecopreneurs’ acts – has recently received much attention from European policymakers as one promising response to the challenges of sustainable economic development due to its potential to catalyze and build a low–carbon or green economy. This topical relationship between green entrepreneurship and sustainable economy has also gained increa

Linguistic and Syllabic Embeddings as Predictors in Auditory Attention Decoding

The human brain has a built-in capacity to perform selective hearing, allowing us to focus on a single speaker in noisy environments while subconsciously filtering out background chatter and other noise. This ability is colloquially known as the cocktail party effect and is often impaired in individuals with reduced hearing or other neurological conditions. This results in an overall reduced quali

Empowerment of the Indigenous People through Peace Accord and Conflicts in Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh

This study has been done on the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) ‘Peace Accord’ in Bangladesh which is the policy response of government to address socioeconomic, educational and cultural rights of the indigenous people. In this context, my study illuminates on two concepts namely ‘participation’ and ‘peacebuilding’. Here, the main research question is : How far does ‘Participation’ function as an eff
