APIVARIA - A Top Bar Bee Hive Concept

A concept for a bee, - and beekeeper friendly horizontal top bar beehive for northern climates, aiming to provide a platform for discussion and further development of bee keeping methods. An ergonomic alternative to the heavy handled traditionally used vertical hives, Apivaria aims to offer an older generation a possibility to postpone retirement from beekeeping, while introducing a new generation

Recognising children’s involvement in child and family therapy sessions : A microanalysis of audiovisual recordings of actual practice

Children’s right to involvement in practices that address their well-being is frequently highlighted, yet how children exercise involvement in face-to-face encounters has remained fairly unknown. To fulfil our aim of identifying, describing and defining children’s involvement, we conducted an inductive microanalysis of face-to-face dialogue on audiovisual recordings of naturally occurring therapy Children’s right to involvement in practices that address their well-being is frequently highlighted, yet how children exercise involvement in face-to-face encounters has remained fairly unknown. Development of combined operando diagnostics : Applications in heterogeneous catalysis and electrochemistry

With the aim to bridge the pressure gap between traditional surface science and industrial applications, heterogeneous catalytic reactions on model catalysts are increasingly studied at near-ambient pressures. Under those conditions, the gas phase has been shown to play an important role during the interaction at the gas-surface interface making it complex to study. This complexity can be captured

Investigating verbal coding of pictures and the effects of language in children during a short-term memory task with eye tracking

Understanding the parameters of using speech code for visual material is critical to a range of theories concerning memory span development, and the relationship between language and thought. The present study attempted to reveal whether a group of children (N = 39, age 5–7) used verbal labelling of pictures in a memory task, by investigating dwell times on pictures of objects. It is the first stu

Detection of Malaria by Multispectral Microscopy using Statistical Classification Methods

There has been much work on classification of malaria infected blood; in resent time, a method using LED-based microscopy has been developed with the goal of reducing time and cost. The education level needed to make such decisions is also reduced using this microscope. This is mainly done to help the developing countries in the fight against malaria and develop these countries competence in the f

Assessment cultures in higher education : reducing barriers and enabling change

A series of worldwide projects concerning assessment, student outcomes and quality in higher education has revealed the need for a change in how higher education institutions assess student outcomes; however, many academics remain unconvinced. The success of assessment change arguably depends on the assessment culture within the institution. This qualitative investigation of assessment cultures dr

Towards visual strategic communications : an innovative interdisciplinary perspective on visual dimensions within the strategic communications field

The purpose of this paper is to explore how a visual perspective can be applied to strategic communication research. First, the term visual communication will be examined from various perspectives with an attempt to develop a foundation for this new academic territory. Second, this study summarises how visual approaches are applied in strategic communication research during 2005-2015, this is donePurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore how a visual perspective can be applied to strategic communication research. A parametric approach to data cleaning of ion current measurements

In this thesis, a few possible methods to clean nuisance signals from ion current measurements are explored. Ion current measurements can be used to optimise a combustion engine, but interference from the ignition system coupled with clipping caused by limitations in the measurement equipment limit the amount of data that can be extracted. This thesis develops a model which is used for simulation
