Questions and answers about the start of the semester
If you have received notification that you have been admitted, you will receive an invitation to the introductory meeting at least one week before the start of the semester. If you have not received an invitation, please contact us. We send our invitation letters by email, and occasionally they may end up in your spam folder, so please check that as well.
During the introductory meeting, you will receive more information about the structure of the course. The time and place for the introductory meetings, as well as schedules, course syllabi, and reading lists, can also be found on each course webpage, which you can locate here: Courses by semester.
The welcome letter is sent out no later than one week before the start of the course. They sometimes end up in the spam folder, so please check there as well. If you cannot find anything, you need to contact the administrator for your subject area.
There are two main reasons why you are admitted on condition:
- You need to pay tuition fees (SV condition)
- You have documentation they still have to submit in support of their application (VI or AV condition)
Tuition fees
SV: Find out more on Universiteyadmissions.se: Admission results
Documentation
VI: The course you have applied to has a specific entry requirement that you do not meet until the courses you are currently taking are completed. You will therefore be admitted to the course on the condition that you meet the required prerequisites before the course begins.
Please note that you will be removed from your lower-priority alternatives, so if you realize that you will not meet the condition, you should withdraw from the course (no later than three days before you are to receive your first admission notification). Otherwise, you may find yourself in a situation where you are not qualified for the only course to which you have been admitted and cannot be registered. If you are unsure whether you will meet the condition, you should contact the course study advisor immediately.
AV: you must present a completed degree of 180 credits to be fully qualified for the programme
It is not possible to say how likely your chances are. Your admission notification indicates how many applicants have been admitted in the selection groups in which you are waitlisted, which can give you some indication of your chances.
If you have accepted your place on the waiting list, you will receive a new admission notification after the second selection round. This will show whether your position on the waiting list has improved.
In most cases, the department admits more students than there are places available, based on experience that some admitted students do not show up at the start of the course. This means that a number of admitted students must first decline their place before the department can offer places to applicants on the waiting list. A low waiting list number is therefore not a guarantee that you will be offered a place.
If you are on the waiting list, you should not attend the introductory meeting unless the department specifically informs you to do so. For many programmes, the department does not call applicants from the waiting list until after the introductory meeting, once they know how many of the admitted students have actually shown up.
Only after the introductory meeting do we know how many seats remain available in the courses. Applicants on the waiting list and late applicants are admitted in order based on their waiting list position and the date of application.
Whether waiting list applicants are invited to the introductory meeting or contacted afterward depends on the specific course. For more information, please contact the course administrator for the course you applied to, or the study advisor.
After the application deadline on 15 April or 15 October, the application closes. Courses and programmes that may still have places available after the first selection round will reopen for late applications after 15 July or 15 December.
If you submit a late application, you will be ranked after those who applied on time, based on the date on which you meet the entry requirements for the programme you have applied to. If your qualifications are not registered on antagning.se, it is important that you submit certified copies of all documents verifying your eligibility at the same time as you apply.
Late applications are processed during the months of August (for the autumn semester) and January (for the spring semester). You can track your application on antagning.se, where you will be able to see whether you have been admitted or what position you hold on the waiting list.
If you are placed on a waiting list, the department will contact you if a seat becomes available. Please note that it may take until the start of the semester – or even throughout the first week of the term – before you receive a decision.
After submitting a late application, you must monitor your email regularly. Around the start of the course, we need to know quickly whether you wish to accept your seat or not. If you do not respond within the specified time, you will be removed from the list and the offer will be passed on to the next person on the waiting list.
If you are admitted late to a course that has already started, you should contact the department as soon as possible. You should be prepared to begin the course immediately.
No, you must apply via antagning.se.
For some courses, admitted students must register themselves via Ladok one week before the start of the course. Online registration is only available to students who have been admitted without conditions. For other courses, registration takes place in connection with the introductory meeting. Your welcome letter will specify what applies to your particular course.
If you are admitted after the course has started, you will be registered by the education administrator.
If you have applied for student finance for the relevant semester, information about your registration will be reported to CSN within a few days after you have registered. This means that payments can then be made automatically.
Once you have been admitted to or registered for a course, you need to activate your student account. After that, you can log in to the Canvas learning platform as soon as the teacher has published the course.
