Course content
The course is focused on a number of central literary works of Russian modernism. The literary works are studied with regard to the context of a culture coloured by religious, philosophical and, gradually, political aspects, and with regard to the relationship between literature and the other arts. Russian modernism has two principal currents – Symbolism and Futurism – and their respective long-term contributions to Russian culture are studied.
Module 1: Russian Symbolism (1892-1910), 7.5 credits
Module 2: Russian Futurism (1910-1928), 7.5 credits.
Course design
Teaching takes the form of lectures, seminars, image and film screenings and individual supervision. The course includes 8-10 mandatory seminars and 2-4 mandatory assignments. Completion of missed mandatary components can be done through oral or written assesment in consultation with the lecturer.
The course is taught remotely using the online learning platform Canvas. The course includes regular seminars on Zoom. You will need access to a computer with internet access, a webcam and a headset for the entire course period.
