The present review discusses two types of biological rhythms, namely, circadian rhythms and circannual rhythms. Humans possess a circadian rhythm of approximately 24 hours, which is regulated by neural and hormonal processes. The synchronisation of this rhythm with the solar day and night is maintained through entrainment mainly by light. Dark environments completely lacking windows may have a neg

The purpose of the study was to explore employees’ appraisals and coping responses to workplace incivility in the foodservice industry. Five group interviews with foodservice workers were conducted. 13 different types of experienced or witnessed incivility were identified. Positive-benign, irrelevant, and negative appraisals were found, as well as four major coping themes. These were active, passi

Diatoms are an important group of eukaryotic microalgae, which play key roles in marine biochemical cycling and possess significant biotechnological potential. Despite the importance of diatoms, their regulatory mechanisms of protein synthesis at the translational level remain largely unexplored. Here, we describe the detailed development of a ribosome profiling protocol to study translation in th

This paper inspects the territorial and state restructuring of the globalising city-region of Tangier. It argues that recent economic growth and transnational connections follow new forms of entrepreneurial development that aggravate social and spatial inequalities. The analysis shows that these forms of urban and regional management are embedded in the neoliberalised, yet monarch-centric Moroccan

Extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling has been associated with chronic lung diseases. However, information about specific age-associated differences in lung ECM is currently limited. In this study, we aimed to identify and localize age-associated ECM differences in human lungs using comprehensive transcriptomic, proteomic, and immunohistochemical analyses. Our previously identified age-associated

Wind, rain, herbivores, obstacles, neighbouring plants, etc. provide important mechanical cues to steer plant growth and survival. Mechanostimulation to stimulate yield and stress resistance of crops is of significant research interest, yet a molecular understanding of transcriptional responses to touch is largely absent in cereals. To address this, we performed whole-genome transcriptomics follow

Bayesian inference can be extended to probability distributions defined in terms of their inverse distribution function, i.e. their quantile function. This applies to both prior and likelihood. Quantile-based likelihood is useful in models with sampling distributions which lack an explicit probability density function. Quantile-based prior allows for flexible distributions to express expert knowle

Colloidal halide perovskite nanocrystals are promising candidates for next-generation optoelectronics because of their facile synthesis and their outstanding and size-tunable properties. However, these materials suffer fromrapid degradation, similarly to their bulk perovskite counterparts. Here, we survey the most recent strategies to boost perovskite nanocrystals stability, with a special focus o

In this chapter, we explore how audit professionals in transnational accounting firms feel about their professional identity in the digital age. Based on 15 interviews with audit professionals, our findings reveal that despite the dispositional and relational affordances of emerging digital technology, some auditors are experiencing professional insecurities. Our interviewees expressed concerns on

This chapter is a commentary on the book as a whole. Based on the overall PeTS project, the empirical findings from the four educational settings and the conceptual portions of the book, this chapter focuses on three specific aspects of peer group mentoring: the move from teaching as a private matter to teaching as a collegial responsibility, the relationship between collegiality and peer group me

Theorizing simplifies reality by means of "isolation" whereby some phenomena or aspects thereof are excluded from consideration. Using the case of the resource-based view, we discuss how theorists isolate. We develop a case for symmetrical isolations, show that the RBV violates a symmetry requirement, argue that a more symmetrical RBV implies novel insights in value creation and appropriation, and
