In this essay we investigate ways to re-configure ethnographic practices and articulate them as diffractive. The essay problematizes the ways in which the phi- losophical concept of reflexivity can be understood as limiting for the inherent compositional character of ethnographic practices. These practices are by necessity carried out in proximity. That makes a reflexive point of departure problem

Integrated urban design and open storm drainage in our urban environments : Merging drainage techniques into our city’s urban spaces

Flooding is the most common natural hazard in Europe. Cities cannot rely only on underground solutions which are expensive and inflexible. In order to reduce the negative impacts of flood, open and surface solutions play a key role in the efficiency of urban drainage systems. Utilizing the earth’s surface as part of sustainable water infrastructure, also as powerful element for creating the space,

Increasing Incidence of Young-Onset Colorectal Carcinoma A 3-Country Population Analysis

BACKGROUND: The overall incidence of colorectal carcinoma is declining in Western populations; however, single country series demonstrate an increase in young-onset (<50 years) colorectal carcinoma. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine whether the pattern of increasing incidence of young-onset colorectal carcinoma is consistent across 3 Western populations. DESIGN: This is a popul

New loci for body fat percentage reveal link between adiposity and cardiometabolic disease risk.

To increase our understanding of the genetic basis of adiposity and its links to cardiometabolic disease risk, we conducted a genome-wide association meta-analysis of body fat percentage (BF%) in up to 100,716 individuals. Twelve loci reached genome-wide significance (P<5 × 10(-8)), of which eight were previously associated with increased overall adiposity (BMI, BF%) and four (in or near COBLL1/GR

Epigenetic alterations in blood mirror age-associated DNA methylation and gene expression changes in human liver

Aim: To study the impact of aging on DNA methylation and mRNA expression in human liver. Experimental procedures: We analysed genome-wide DNA methylation and gene expression in human liver samples using Illumina 450K and HumanHT12 expression BeadChip arrays. Results: DNA methylation analysis of ∼455,000 CpG sites in human liver revealed that age was significantly associated with altered DNA methyl

Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology—Nutritional Epidemiology (STROBE-nut) : An Extension of the STROBE Statement

Background: Concerns have been raised about the quality of reporting in nutritional epidemiology. Research reporting guidelines such as the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) statement can improve quality of reporting in observational studies. Herein, we propose recommendations for reporting nutritional epidemiology and dietary assessment research by exte

Monopsony power and wages: Evidence from the introduction of serfdom in Denmark

We exploit a large historical shock to the Danish labour market to provide evidence of how restrictions on labour mobility increase monopsony power and thereby reduce wages. By severely limiting the possibility of the rural population to work beyond their place of birth, the reintroduction of serfdom in 1733 aimed to increase monopsony power and secure cheaper labour in the countryside. Using a un

Pharmacoepigenetics in type 2 diabetes : is it clinically relevant?

Data generated over nearly two decades clearly demonstrate the importance of epigenetic modifications and mechanisms in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes. However, the role of pharmacoepigenetics in type 2 diabetes is less well established. The field of pharmacoepigenetics covers epigenetic biomarkers that predict response to therapy, therapy-induced epigenetic alterations as well as epigenetic

A New Analysis for Machine Translation of Auxiliaries and Main verb Complexes

The analysis of the verb phrase poses interesting problems. This paper suggests a binary solution where the auxiliary is treated as one constituent and the main verb complex as another. Auxiliaries are thus not treated as main verbs as was suggested by Ross 1967 (and followed in the first version of Referent Grammar, Sigurd 1987). The auxiliary may be lacking (latent, empty), in which case the mai

Uppförandet av hållbara städer i en neoliberal miljö. En studie rörande Västra hamnen i Malmö och Tianjin Eco-city i Kina.

The future of our society is in need of changes to survive. Our cities are not sustainable the way they are today, nor the way we consume our resources. For those reasons, sustainable development has become fashion today. Eco-cities are being built all over the world to find new solutions to problems we face every day, such as too much traffic and waste. The topic for this master thesis is who ini

Friggeboden 25m2

There is a bright future for friggeboden. So far it has been a success, by allowing the villa owner to take responsibility for his/her own plot and be able to build as they want. Until now has the maximum size been 15m2, which is big enough for a guest cottage, shed or as hobby house. Now the government will change the law the 1st of July 2014 to 25m². This allows permanent housing in friggeboden.
