Characterizing the mechanical properties of skin-core structure in polymer molding process by nanoindentation
Quality of the polymer product produced by injection molding process are strongly affected by the mechanical properties of the skin-core structure formed during injection molding operation. It is desirable to know the mechanisms of the skin-core structure and the influence from process parameters and material properties to the skin-core formation in the injection molding. This paper focuses on cha

Preliminary Results of Combining Thread-Level Speculation and Just-in-Time Compilation in Google’s V8
We present the first implementation of Thread-Level Speculation in combination with Just-in-time compilation. The implementation is done in Google’s V8, a well-known JavaScript engine, and evaluated on 15 popular web application executing on 2, 4, and 8 core computers. Our results show an average speedup of 2.9 on 4 cores, without any JavaScript code modifications. Further, we have found that the
Employment Security: A sustainable strategy for the future, or an extended leeway for exploitation of workers?
The Power of Elections : Democratic Participation, Competition and Legitimacy in Africa
This book is about elections and democracy in newly democratizing countries. Building on a new data set of 5,568 observations in 232 elections, it provides evidence elections have a casual impact on improving the quality of democracy in Africa in more than one way. The study demonstrates multiparty elections do not signal the end of transitions to democracy but rather foster liberalization and hav
Evaluation and Mitigation of Industrial Fire Hazards
A tool suitable for conducting industrial fire and explosion hazard analysis is presented, together with an identification of weak links in the hazard evaluation chain. For some of the weak links additional research has been carried out. The tool, "FREIA", evaluates the consequences for humans and components due to fires and accidental releases indoors and outdoors using established engineering m
Ventilation of the Paranasal Sinuses. A study using the 133-Xenon Washout Technique
A noninvasive 133-xenon washout technique was used to evaluate the ventilation of the paranasal sinuses in healthy subjects and in patients with sinus disease. A mixture of air and 133-xenon is insufflated into the nasal cavities and passage into the sinuses is facilitated by a pressure increase created by letting the subjects inflate a balloon. A scintillation camera allowing single photon emissi

The Concept of Norms in Sociology of Law
The aim of this article is to propose a method for creating a more coherent concept of norms – and to deliver a tentative and open suggestion on how to define norms in a way that might fit into the context of Sociology of Law (further on shortened, SoL). The idea is that the norm concept can be chiselled out through ontological analysis, and that this analysis can be conducted in a way that allow
Molecular Genetic Characterization of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia with a Poor Prognosis
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) affects individuals at all ages, with peak incidences in children 50 years. ALL is broadly categorized into B-cell precursor (BCP) and T-cell ALL with specific clinical features associated with outcome. In contrast to pediatric ALL, which has a favorable prognosis, adult ALL is associated with a much poorer outcome with less than 40% overall survival rates, decre

Ritual Practice as Power Play or Redemptive Hegemony : The Mi’kmaq Appropriation of Catholicism
This article aims to examine the dialectic interface between the Canadian Mi’kmaq traditions and Catholicism, the latter brought into their territory by French missionaries as early as the beginning of the 17th century. Although today there have been critical voices raised by some Mi’kmaq against the Catholic church, which they see as a symbol for colonial repression, most Mi’kmaq today belong to
The Rise of Procedural Rule of Law in the European Union - Historical and Normative Foundations
The rule of law in the EU is not only substantive and formal, it is also procedural. From the early years of European integration until now – and this through the interpretative lens of either the terse Article 31 ECSC or the robust Article 19 TEU - the procedural rule of law has always been thriving and jolting in the case law of both the European Coal and Steal Community (ECSC) Court and the Cou

The effects of quantifier size on the construction of discourse models
Sentences with quantified expressions involve mental representations of sets of individuals for which some property holds (the reference set), as well as of sets for which the property does not hold (the complement set). Both sets can receive discourse focus with negative quantifiers, while the reference set is strongly preferred with positive quantifiers, complement set focus however being possib
