Arms, Alliances and Trade

With the use of arms trade data spanning the time period between 1992 and 2010, this thesis sets out to study what influence joining NATO has on a country’s volume of arms export and its probability of exporting arms. An assessment is also made of how NATO members trade arms. The data is estimated with a set of different gravity models and by using linear regressions evaluating volume and logistic

Kultur, patriarkat och hedersrelaterat våld - En argumentationsanalys av den svenska offentliga debatten kring hedersrelaterat våld

The public debate on honor-related violence intensified in Sweden after the murder of Fadime Sahindal. A culture-based understanding and feminist understanding on honor-related violence has mainly characterized the public debate. The essay aims to analyze these arguments based on the concept of culture. Does the understanding of the honor-related violence need to be divided into either a culture u

A View from Language : Growth of language in individuals and populations

The main question that this book tries to find answers to is what it is that makes language learnable. Language is one of the most complex human activities, but nearly 100% of humanity have learned a language in childhood. One answer could be that it is something in our brain that makes us learn language better than most other activities. Another answer could be that it is something in language as

Från skärva till kärl : ett bidrag till vardagslivets historia i Uppsala.

Abstract From Sherd to Pot. A Contribution to the History of Everyday Life in Uppsala tackles the question: how is the culturally created reality produced, fixed, and changed, and how can this be related to the social structure as a whole? Immigrant background influence on upper secondary school track choices: A qualitative study of immigrant students in Malmö

This thesis examines the influence of a foreign-born background on students’ educational choices in Sweden, focusing on the selection between vocational and university preparatory programmes in upper secondary education (gymnasium). Recognising that personal experiences and social contexts shape such decisions, a qualitative methodology was adopted to explore the underlying motivations and influen

Pulse Generator with Gated Tunnel Diode

We report on the implementation and performance of a pulse generator based on a gated tunnel diode that has been integrated with a wave-guide oscillator. The gate is used to modulate the magnitude of the negative differential resistance in the gated tunnel diode and to control the oscillations in the circuit. In particular, it can be used to create short pulses of oscillations by turning the oscil

Domsrätt och lagval vid elektronisk handel

This study addresses some of the private international law perspectives on electronic commerce, namely the matters of jurisdiction and choice of law. Farewell to peasantry? : (Post)modernising rural Mexico - The case of the ejido peasants in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec

The thesis deals with a classical issue, that of the fate of the peasantry, in particular the process of the transformation of the peasantry. The aim is to explore whether there is a place for the smallholding peasantry in the future, or if the process of dissolution is inevitable. The discussion of this broad question is approached by first deconstructing the peasantry into economic actors and so

Pion and Kaon Dynamics at Higher Orders in Chiral Perturbation Theory

Higher orders calculations of processes involving the pion and kaon pseudo-scalar mesons are presented in the framework of three flavour Chiral Perturbation Theory. The purpose is two-fold. First determining the low energy constants of ChPT that are necessary for higher accuracy predictions. Secondly, testing the validity of the chiral expansion in the strange quark mass, with emphasis on the valu
