Work Report 2019 for the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies

Administration and organsation In January 2019 the Centre for East and Southeast Asian Studies moved to the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology (HT) and became a section at the Department of History. During 2019, the Centre thus became incorporated into a new organisation, which required some adjustment regarding institutional and financial set-up. The Centre now has an advisory board consi

This dissertation investigates theoretically electric control of the magnetic properties of molecular magnets. Two classes of magnetic molecules are considered. The first class consists of molecules that are spin frustrated. As a consequence of the frustration, the ground-state manifold of these molecules is characterized by states of different spin chirality, which can be coupled by an external e

This thesis investigates affective and semantic meaning-making in online audiovisual propaganda published by the Danish nationalist youth organization, Generation Identitær. Specifically, the study uses the notion of affective investments and relations in order to account for the ways in which the organization’s propaganda operates. It follows a feminist and postcolonial tradition and centers the

Popular Abstract in English For several decades the electronic industry has developed towards smaller and smaller electronic components. The idea behind this development is quite simple: Small components have faster response times, which enables faster devices. Also, smaller components make it possible to decrease the size of the devices. A common example is today's mobile phones, that actually arThis dissertation deals with the effects of coherence and correlations on transport through nanostructures. Simulations are mainly performed using the second order von Neumann approach, a method capable of dealing with these effects in the presence of higher order tunneling. We see that such effects can result in various kinds of current suppression as well as efficient thermoelectric devices. Fu

Avdelningen för bokhistoria

Bokhistorisk forskning kretsar kring boken och andra dokumenttyper som fysiska föremål och kring samspelet mellan individen, samhället och den grafiska kommunikationen i såväl äldre som modern tid. Tryckkulturens materiella och sociala historia, de grafiska teknikernas funktion och betydelse i empiriskt och historiskt såväl som teoretiskt hänseende samt bokens, bildens och typografins funktioner oBook history research encompasses the book and other document types as physical objects as well as the interaction between the individual, society and graphical communication through out history. The material and social history of print culture, and the function and significance of graphical techniques in empirical and historical as well as theoretical terms constitute key areas of the division’s

Bangkok is a multicultural metropolis where different cultures are exchanged and frequently in contact. The Chinese diaspora has settled in Bangkok for a long period of time. The intermarriage between the Thai and the Chinese has created a complex identity known as Sino-Thai for their descendants. This study aimed to explore the identity perception of the third generation Sino-Thai in Bangkok by a

Self-service business intelligence (SSBI) is an emerging trend in organisations allowing users to become more autonomous in data exploration. Organisations are keen to provide such services for their employees due to its potential benefits. However, there is little empirical knowledge about the process of building a SSBI service and the role of users in this process. From an exploratory single cas

We investigate spin-dependent transport properties of a two-terminal electron waveguide, attached with a side arm, with Rashba spin-orbit interaction (SOI). The interference between the bound states in the side arm and the continuous states in the straight channel gives rise to broad valleys in the conductance spectrum. At these Fano antiresonances, a large transverse spin polarization can be crea

Quantum dot (QD)-metal oxide composite forms a "heart" of the QD-sensitized solar cells. It maintains light absorption and electron-hole separation in the system and has been therefore extensively studied. The interest is largely driven by a vision of harvesting the hot carrier energy before it is lost via relaxation. Despite of importance of the process, very little is known about the carrier rel

Density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT calculations have been performed on a set of 34 titanium dioxide clusters ((TiO2)(n) with n125) to investigate structural and electronic properties of nanostructured TiO2 (nano-TiO2) materials. The investigated clusters include models of the three low-energy polymorphic forms of TiO2 anatase, rutile, and brookite. A systematic comparison of cl

We have studied the influence of the InP spacer layer thickness on stacked InAs/InP quantum dots, using cross-sectional scanning tunnelling microscopy. We show that for a spacer layer thickness of up to 30 nm, the quantum dots are spatially correlated but for a separating distance of 50 nm the vertical ordering of the dots is lost. These values are the same as previously found for quantum dots in
