Regulation of intracellular levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) remains poorly understood. Aquaporin 3 (AQP3) facilitates the membrane transport of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), a key ROS signaling molecule. Here we elucidate the molecular mechanism of AQP3 and show that its regulatory properties are both pH dependent and autoregulated by H2O2. Using single particle cryo-electron microscopy, we pr

TOYOTA, Identity in historical change LANGUAGE AND IDENTITY IN HISTORICAL CHANGE JUNICHI TOYOTA Abstract. Language contacts often result in significant historical changes, and such changes are very common in four corners of the world, and in recent years, contact-induced historical changes have been given their deserved attention (e.g. Heine 2005; Heine and Kuteva 2003, 2005, 2006) in historical l

Three incommensurately modulated gamma-brass-related composite structures in the Ni-Zn system have been solved from Xray single crystal diffraction data using a 3+1 dimensional super space description. The compounds at the end points of the compositional domain NiZn3-delta (-0.09 <= delta <= 0.34) and NiZn3.30 crystallize in the orthorhombic superspace group Fmmm(alpha 00) 0s0 {F = [(1/2, 1/2, 0,

Despite recent technological advancements allowing the characterization of cancers at a molecular level along with biomarkers for cancer diagnosis, the management of ovarian cancers (OC) remains challenging. Proteins assume functions encoded by the genome and the complete set of proteins, termed the proteome, reflects the health state. Comprehending the circulatory proteomic profiles for OC subtyp

Despite oncogene amplification being a characteristic of many tumor types, the mechanisms leading to amplicon formation have remained largely unresolved. In this study, we used a combinatorial approach of fluorescence in situ hybridization and single-nucleotide polymorphism chip gene copy number analyses to unravel the mechanism leading to nonsyntenic coamplification of MYC and ATBF1 in SJNB-12 ce

Chemical solution deposition (CSD) offers the opportunity to fabricate very thin electrolyte films at lower temperatures than traditional powder-based methods. CSD methods have not been used much in production of protonic ceramic fuel cells (PCFC) until now. In this contribution we describe thin film deposition of the two proton-conducting materials BaZr0.9Y0.1O3 (-) (delta) (BZY) and La28 - xW4 +

Rare-variant association studies in common, complex diseases are customarily conducted under an additive risk model in both single-variant and burden testing. Here, we describe a method to improve detection of rare recessive variants in complex diseases termed RAFT (recessive-allele-frequency-based test). We found that RAFT outperforms existing approaches when the variant influences disease risk i

In this paper, we present a fluorescence activated sorter realized in a continuous flow microfluidic chip. Sorting is achieved by deflecting a focused particle stream with short acoustic bursts (2.5 ms), in a fluorescence activated configuration. The system utilizes two-dimensional acoustic pre-focusing, using a single actuation frequency, to position all particles in the same fluid velocity regim

PEF processing involves subjecting food to short, repeated pulses of a high electric field between an anode and a cathode. The main result of this process is the disruption of the cell membrane leading to the formation of either temporary or permanent pores

We report the use of multinodal acoustic trapping for high throughput and high capacity capturing of EV's (extracellular vesicles) for quantitative mass spectrometry analysis. The multinode trapping unit was shown to isolate sufficient amount of EV's from dilute biological samples (urine and cell culture supernatant) at flow rates of 500 ul/min within minutes, enabling EV proteome profiling. This

We present a novel approach to the 3D sound source localization task for distributed ad-hoc microphone arrays by formulating it as a set-to-set regression problem. By training a multi-modal masked autoencoder model that operates on audio recordings and microphone coordinates, we show that such a formulation allows for accurate localization of the sound source, by reconstructing coordinates masked

NRAS and its effector BRAF are frequently mutated in melanoma. Paradoxically, CRAF but not BRAF was shown to be critical for various RAS-driven cancers, raising the question of the role of RAF proteins in NRAS-induced melanoma. Here, using conditional ablation of Raf genes in NRAS-induced mouse melanoma models, we investigate their contribution in tumour progression, from the onset of benign tumou

The ability to control the energy levels in semiconductors is compelling for optoelectronic applications. In this study, we managed to tune the work function (WF) of halide perovskite semiconductors using self-assembled monolayers of small molecules to induce stable dipoles at the surface. The direction and intensity of the surface dipoles rely on specific molecule-to-surface interactions. Electro
