“Gender” and “innovation” in facility management : do they matter?
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the ongoing discussion on how the field of facility management is changing and the role a regional innovation system (RIS) can take place to support this change, with a specific focus on the role of gender and innovation. Design/methodology/approach: The study builds partly on interactive research, and as a complement, qualitative semi-structu
Novel Biomarkes in Acute Respiratory Failure and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
Abstract Background: Dyspnea is a common manifestation of a range of conditions and diseases, sometimes with multiple contributing factors. A subgroup of these patients present with acute hypecapnic respiratory failure (AHRF) and are treated with non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV). Despite the biomarkers and clinical signs available to predict outcome in patients with respiratory fa
Genetic analysis of obstructive sleep apnoea discovers a strong association with cardiometabolic health
There is currently limited understanding of the genetic aetiology of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). We aimed to identify genetic loci associated with OSA risk, and to test if OSA and its comorbidities share a common genetic background. We conducted the first large-scale genome-wide association study of OSA using the FinnGen study (217 955 individuals) with 16 761 OSA patients identified using nat
Train delays due to trackwork in Sweden
Only well-maintained railway systems can function without severe interruptions. However, maintenance activities can themselves cause train delays if they conflict with trainmovements. Trackwork refers to maintenance performed on a railway track. This studyaims to investigate the effect of trackwork on train delays in Sweden. It presents a logisticregression analysis based on more than 225,000 plann
Lymphovascular Infiltration, Not Depth of Invasion, is the Critical Risk Factor of Metastases in Early Colorectal Cancer : Retrospective Population-based Cohort Study on Prospectively Collected Data, including Validation
Objective: To identify clinical and histopathological risk factors of LNM in T1 CRC. Summary of Background Data: The requisite of additional surgery after locally resected T1 CRC is dependent on the risk of LNM. Depth of submucosal invasion is used as a key predictor of lymphatic metastases although data are conflicting on its actual impact. Methods: Retrospective population-based cohort study on

Colocation of Entrepreneurs and New Firm Survival : Role of New Firm Founder’s Experiential Relatedness to Local Entrepreneurs
Geographical clustering (colocation) influences new firm survival; however, not all new firms within a cluster are impacted equally. In this paper, we elaborate on how the colocation of local entrepreneurs may have different influences on new firm founder's learning depending on his/her fit, in terms of his/her experiential relatedness, to that of local entrepreneurs. We then associate such founde
The entrepreneurial orientation in the transformation of universities
Universities are a relevant and little-explored context to the study of strategic action, considering their need to adapt to environmental dynamics and establish a closer relationship with society. This study contributes to shedding light on how the changing process from a traditional university model to a more entrepreneurial model takes place. Thus, this study aims to analyze the role played by
Intergroup Threat and Affective Polarization in a Multi-Party System
What explains affective polarization among voters and societal groups? Much of the existing literature focusing on mass political polarization in modern democracies originates in the US, where studies have shown that, while ideological separation has grown, political conflict increasingly reflects social identity divisions rather than policy disagreements, resulting in affective polarization. We f
In comparison to disciplines within the humanities and social sciences working directly with living humans, as well as in comparison to oral history, historians primarily working with archival sources lack a living discussion on ethics in connection with our methods. At the same time, archival sources that contain sensitive personal information are central in many fields – such as queer history –
Creative Machines, Orphan Inventions: AI and the concept of inventor at the EPO
In 2018, an AI system named by its creator DABUS (Device for the Autonomous Bootstrapping of Unified Sentience) was credited by its creator to have independently invented a neural flame and a fractal container. According to its creator, DABUS is a ‘sentient artificial general intelligence can replicate all aspects of human cognition, including perception, creativity, consciousness, and sentience’
Pharmacoepigenetics in type 2 diabetes : is it clinically relevant?
Data generated over nearly two decades clearly demonstrate the importance of epigenetic modifications and mechanisms in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes. However, the role of pharmacoepigenetics in type 2 diabetes is less well established. The field of pharmacoepigenetics covers epigenetic biomarkers that predict response to therapy, therapy-induced epigenetic alterations as well as epigenetic
Organizational resilience and internal branding: investigating the effects triggered by self-service technology
The majority of studies on internal brand equity examine its various dimensions and relationships between them. While prior research specifies organizational practices relevant for successful internal branding, the insights about the impact of essential organizational factors on internal brand equity are still limited. This study focuses on organizational resilience that is vital for the existenceThe majority of studies on internal brand equity examine its various dimensions and relationships between them. A model of an integrated hydrothermal liquefaction, gasification and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis process for converting lignocellulosic forest residues into hydrocarbons
The aim of this work was to develop a model of an integrated biomass-to-liquid process, consisting of hydrothermal liquefaction, evaporation, gasification and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, using lignocellulosic forest residues as feedstock to produce hydrocarbons suitable for upgrade into drop-in biofuels. The energy, mass and carbon efficiencies that were achieved were 35%, 20% and 32%, respectively
Monopsony power and wages: Evidence from the introduction of serfdom in Denmark
We exploit a large historical shock to the Danish labour market to provide evidence of how restrictions on labour mobility increase monopsony power and thereby reduce wages. By severely limiting the possibility of the rural population to work beyond their place of birth, the reintroduction of serfdom in 1733 aimed to increase monopsony power and secure cheaper labour in the countryside. Using a un

Epigenetic epidemiology and alterations in type 2 diabetes and obesity
ype 2 diabetes (T2D) and obesity are multifactorial and polygenic metabolic diseases. Combinations of genetic and non-genetic risk factors such as risk SNPs, age, unhealthy diets, and physical inactivity increase the risk for these diseases. Emerging data also support a key role for epigenetic mechanisms in the pathogenesis of T2D and obesity. In this chapter, we summarize current knowledge of epi
