I artikeln studeras relationen mellan meningslängd, fraslängd och skiljetecken i utdrag ur tio svenska romaner. En "neutral romanrytm" urskiljs för en grupp av de undersökta texterna. Övriga texter avviker från den "neutrala romanrytmen" på flera olika sätt.
