Fabelbruk i svensk tidigmodernitet : En genrehistorisk studie
Den aisopiska fabeln etablerades som genre i den grekiska antiken och nådde Skandinavien under medeltiden. I svensk kultur upplevde fabeln en storhetstid under den tidigmoderna epoken (1500–1800). Monografin Fabelbruk i svensk tidigmodernitet. En genrehistorisk studie tar ett helhetsgrepp om fabelgenrens historia i Sverige under denna 300-årsperiod. I dialog med ny internationell fabel- och genref
Distribution of HLA-DQ risk genotypes for celiac disease in Ethiopian children
Most patients with celiac disease are positive for either HLA-DQA1*05:01-DQB1*02 (DQ2.5) or DQA1*03:01-DQB1*03:02 (DQ8). Remaining few patients are usually DQA1*02:01-DQB1*02 (DQ2.2) carriers. Screenings of populations with high frequencies of these HLA-DQA1-DQB1 haplotypes report a 1% to 3% celiac disease prevalence. The aim was to determine the prevalence of HLA-DQ risk haplotypes for celiac dis

På spaning efter livets mening. Om livsfrågor och livsåskådning hos äldre grundskoleelever i en undervisningsmiljö som befrämjar kunskapande
This dissertation makes up the first report based on data collected during the project "Teenagers: aspects of their life style and attitudes" (Tonåringens livssituation och livstolkning) in the subject Religious Studies taken by pupils attending Year 9 during the 1993/94 school year. The general aim of the study is to discover the central values of life which pupils hold, as expressed in an essay
MRI assessment of haemophilic arthropathy
Haemophilia is a recessive genetic bleeding disorder in which coagulation time is prolonged due to the absence or malfunction of either of the serum proteins Factor VIII or IX. Joint destruction following repeated haemarthroses is the main cause of morbidity in haemophiliacs, and such arthropathy can be prevented or postponed by implementing prophylactic therapy with factor concentrate at an early
Evolution of HIV-1 coreceptor use in relation to pathogenesis
HIV-1 uses the coreceptors CCR5 and/or CXCR4 in addition to CD4 to enter the host cell. CCR5-using HIV-1 (R5 phenotype) appears to transmit infection and usually dominates the early stages of disease. Evolution of HIV-1 coreceptor use is usually described as the acquisition of CXCR4-using virus (X4 or R5X4 phenotype), and is linked to accelerated disease progression. However, the switch to CXCR4 u
Operatörens blick : om inplacering av IT-stöd i erfarenhetsöverföring inom en lokal praxis
Studies in process control automation show that manual control skills are important in handling situations where the automatic control system fails. The fact that these skills are particularly difficult to maintain and develop in automated production environments is usually described as one of the ironies of automation. This work explores new roles for computer support in developing and maintainin
Collaboration between relatives of frail elderly patients and nurses in acute hospital wards. Dimensions, prerequisites and outcome
The aim was to investigate collaboration between relatives of frail elderly patients and nurses in acute hospital wards, and to develop and test an instrument to investigate, from the relatives? perspective, dimensions of collaboration in this context and the association between collaboration and satisfaction with the hospital care trajectory. The underpinning assumption for the study was that rel

Children's participation in decision-making in health care
The main purpose was to investigate children's participation in the decision-making processes in health care. Twenty-four children (0-18 år)admitted to hospital, their parents, and the staff present were observed during totally 135 hours in order to (i) identify the children's needs, (ii) their participation in the decision-making processes, and (iii) their parents' participation. Twenty-six child
From Cue to Recall : The Temporal Dynamics of Long-Term Memory Retrieval
A fundamental function of long-term memory is the ability to retrieve a specific memory when encountering a retrieval cue. The purpose of this dissertation was to further our understanding of such cued recall by investigating the temporal dynamics from the presentation of the retrieval cue until the target memory is recalled. Retrieval cues are often related with several memories. When such a retr
A Proteomic Dissection of Breast Cancer - Via Cells and Organelles to Pathways
Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death in females worldwide. Breast tumours are extremely heterogeneous, and each patient’s disease has different causes, prognosis and appropriate treatments associated with it. To enable a more individualised therapy, there is a substantial need for better characterisation of tumours and a deeper understanding o
Skeletal growth and effects of physical activity during adolescence
The aim of this thesis was to evaluate bone mass and bone size in girls and boys from age 12 to 16, with special attention to physical activity. We also wanted to retrospectively evaluate the effect of exercise for the years preceding age 12. The findings were as follows. Sixteen year old adolescents in a rural area had higher areal bone mineral density in the total body and the spine compared wit

Mechanisms of below-ground carbon cycling in subarctic ecosystems
Some components of the below-ground carbon (C) cycle in terrestrial ecosystems are still poorly understood. A better understanding will be necessary to predict adequately the impacts of global change factors on C cycling and storage, especially in high-latitude ecosystems, where much of the C is stored below-ground. In this work some of the mechanisms of the below-ground C cycle in subarctic ecosy
