From words to actions: the effects of the transformation of core values through the physical stores

Purpose: To examine how core values can be concretely transformed in the physical stores in order to help with the creation of favorable brand associations and the shaping of the brand image. Methodology: The paper combines both primary and secondary data, with a specific focus on two brands as case studies: Lush and Kiehl's. Primary data was collected through a questionnaire that includes bo

I studien har 15 stThe European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is an EU agency, providing scientific advice and standards surrounding risk assessment in order to maintain food safety in Europe. The aim of this study was to investigate how EFSA communicates uncertainty in conditions of their assessment and if the recommended guidelines by EFSA 2019 is fulfilled. 15 Randomly picked scientific articles produced during th

Heuristic and Exact Evaluation of Two-Echelon Inventory Systems

The main theme of this project is inventory control with stochastic demand. In this thesis, we consider a two-echelon inventory system that consists of one central warehouse and N retail stores. Customer demands at the retailers follow independent Poisson demand processes and each customer only demands one unit. Customer demands which are not satisfied directly from stock on hand are assumed to ba

The trend of increasing commercial real estate transactions via companies has a negative impact on the process of estimating the taxable values. This due to the sharp decrease of comparison material for our Swedish authorities. Real estate transactions via companies also enable information about the transaction to be kept secret from outside parties. The study aims to show how various parties in t

Girls After the Gunfire : A study of recently released girl child soldiers rehabilitating in an Eastern Sri Lankan Vocational Training Center

In disadvantaged areas of Eastern Sri Lanka, girls tend to be more vulnerable to both voluntary and forced recruitment by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). This thesis focused on how a group of recently released young female ex combatants reintegrated into their community. This was done through a case study of girls in a vocational training program in Eastern Sri Lanka, who had been rel

Ett folkstyre i förvittring eller fortsatt demokratisk livskraft? En studie av de norska och danska maktutredningarnas slutrapporter

Abstract This paper is a comparative study of the final reports of the Norwegian and Danish power studies performed in 2003. While the Danish study found that democracy is thriving, the conclusion of the Norwegian power study was that democracy is in a crisis. The purpose of this paper is to find explanations to why the studies in two Nordic countries arrived at such different results. Methodolo

Jag tänkte gå, men livet kom emellan: om sex kvinnors val att inte delta i mammografiscreening

The aim of this study was to identify possible reasons for non-attendance related to mammographic screening. Using qualitative methods, sex women underwent a semi-structured interview on the following themes: social background, medical history, mammographic screening, invitation, and final decision. Social background was described using the "life-form theory". The concepts of illness, d

Myten om den svenska värdegrunden

There is an idea that nations form the basis of identity. Through history the rulers have tried to connect the cultural identity of the population with the identity the state is supporting, in order to further legitimize their ruling. This has constructed a conception of cultural homogeneity within a country, which in these modern years becomes more and more problematic with flows of migration. We

Factors affecting adoption of a student portal

In a study it was found that only 16% of IT projects in UK were considered successful (Al-Tameem et al, 2008). Underestimating IT adoption problems when implementing a project has been recognized as one of the reasons for the failures (Fink, 1998). The current research aims to study adoption by students of a new portal implemented in Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM). Qua

Crack spreads in crude oil futures - Hedging and speculation in the oil market

This study was performed using daily spot prices, from January 1997 through July 2004; of the three assets that constitute the crack spread i.e. crude oil, gasoline and heating oil - all listed on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX). Our objective has been to characterize the dynamics of the spread and subsequently create trading strategies to yield returns that surpass that of a passive appr

Brands Transfer of Meaning: An analysis of brands roles within product placement

Thesis purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to make a contribution, by connecting the transfer of meaning within the context of TV series. The meaning is transferred from the brand to the character in a TV series and then further to the viewer. To look at different role functions that are used in dramaturgy and narrative techniques, we will be able to see how the brand will have a specific role

Towards a Pedagogy of the Utopian Image

This practice-based PhD project investigates the conditions for a pedagogy of the utopian image in contemporary art and film. It starts from the premise that there is a need for new political and social visions and scenarios. The project asks what role art and artist film, both as a medium and as a social activity, can play in experimenting with and sketching such visions and scenarios – a process

Imaging of strain and lattice orientation by quick scanning X-ray microscopy combined with three-dimensional reciprocal space mapping

Numerous imaging methods have been developed over recent years in order to study materials at the nanoscale. Within this context, scanning X-ray diffraction microscopy has become a routine technique, giving access to structural properties with sub-micrometre resolution. This article presents an optimized technique and an associated software package which have been implemented at the ID01 beamline

A superconductor free of quasiparticles for seconds

Superconducting devices, based on the Cooper pairing of electrons, play an important role in existing and emergent technologies, ranging from radiation detectors1,2 to quantum computers3. Their performance is limited by spurious quasiparticle excitations formed from broken Cooper pairs4–12. Efforts to achieve ultra-low quasiparticle densities have reached time-averaged numbers of excitations on th

The physical and mental impact of surviving sepsis – a qualitative study of experiences and perceptions among a Swedish sample

Background: Sepsis is a critical illness with high morbidity and mortality rates. Each year, sepsis affects about 48.9 million people all over the world. This study aims to illuminate how sepsis survivors experience sepsis and the impact of sepsis, as well as the health-related quality of life thereafter. Methods: An interview study with eight sepsis survivors was carried out in Sweden with an ind
