We present an approach to process scheduling based on an abstract graph representation which captures both data-flow and the flow of control. Target architectures consist of several processors, ASICs and shared busses. We have developed a heuristic which generates a schedule table so that the worst case delay is minimized. Several experiments demonstrate the efficiency of the approach.

The Somalia Reconciliation Conference led by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), in Eastern Africa, is focusing on creating a basis for dialogue as a means of reaching peace and stability in the region (Somali Reconciliation Conference, 2003; IGAD, 2002). This paper deals with the critical implications with focusing on dialogue as a means of promoting long-term peace.

A fundamental building block of any Grid infrastructures is the Grid information service and the information model. The information model describes the entities and relationships between entities within the infrastructure along with their semantics. The realization into a concrete data model defines the syntax by which these concepts can be exchanged. This data model enables consumers of informati

Given an input consisting of an n-vertex convex polygon with k hole vertices or an n-vertex planar straight line graph (PSLG) with k holes and/or reflex vertices inside the convex hull, the parameterized minimum number convex partition (MNCP) problem asks for a partition into a minimum number of convex pieces. We give a fixed-parameter tractable algorithm for this problem that runs in the followin

Wastewater treatment is a worldwide necessity that is even more crucial to countries deprived from abundant fresh water sources or unable to afford advanced and costly processes. With this perspective, this thesis was conducted within an Egyptian-Swedish research collaboration that aimed to develop solar-based (as free renewable energy source available locally) process for hazardous wastewater tre

A critical assessment of a widely applied approach for the prediction of temperature-insensitive absorption lines is presented. This approach was found to suffer from significant shortcomings.

The major challenge in the development of new polymer membranes for fuel cells lies currently in the demand for durable membranes that allows fuel cell operation at high temperatures without extensive humidification requirements. Access to these membranes promises important benefits concerning the complexity, cost and performance of the fuel cell system. In this context, membranes functionalized w

Injection into the MAX IV Storage Rings will not make use of a conventional local injection bump with dipole kickers. Instead, pulsed multipole injection will be applied. Previously, it was foreseen to use a pulsed sextupole magnet similar to what KEK had originally designed for the PF ring. But after seeing encouraging results with a prototype nonlinear kicker magnet developed for BESSY-II, pulse

The performance of a turbo code is dependent on two properties of the code: its distance spectrum and its suitability to be iteratively decoded. Both these properties are dependent on the specific interleaver used in the turbo-coding scheme. This paper describes a strategy for interleaver design that includes a criterion for the performance of iterative decoding. This criterion is based upon corre

This chapter seeks to critically revisit existing third party logistics (3PL) purchasing literature with the aim of bridging the gap between academic research and industry practice regarding logistics outsourcing. This is achieved by focusing on hitherto under-emphasized issues (in the academic literature) relating to the role of the service provider, as opposed to that of the buyer, in 3PL exchan

Dissipation of acoustic waves may be an efficient heating mechanism forthe lower and middle chromosphere of the quiet Sun. The basic idea isthat turbulent motions at the top of the solar convection zone generateacoustic waves which propagate upwards and dissipate in the lower andmiddle chromosphere, transporting energy into the higher layers. Butstill the question remains if this amount of energy
