Inclusive D*(+/-) meson and associated dijet production in deep-inelastic scattering at HERA

Inclusive D*(+/-) production is measured in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA with the H1 detector. In addition, the production of dijets in events with a D*(+/-) meson is investigated. The analysis covers values of photon virtuality 2 <= Q(2) <= 100 GeV2 and of inelasticity 0.05 <= y <= 0.7. Differential cross sections are measured as a function of Q(2) and x and of various D*(+/-) meson and j

Topological properties of citation and metabolic networks

Topological properties of "scale-free" networks are investigated by determining their spectral dimensions d(S), which reflect a diffusion process in the corresponding graphs. Data bases for citation networks and metabolic networks together with simulation results from the growing network model [A.-L. Barabasi and R. Albert, Science 286, 509 (1999)] are probed. For completeness and comparisons latt

Cellobiose dehydrogenase on electrodes - an electrochemical biosensor for various analytes tunable by positive charges

Popular Abstract in English Enzymes are nanometer sized work units made up of proteins. Each of the thousands of the existing enzymes are produced by the cells of every living organism. They carry out certain functions as putting molecules together, e. g. connect sugar units to form cellulose for a growing tree or destroy molecules, e. g. degrade cellulose into its sugar units to eat and live on tCellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH) is a sugar oxidizing enzyme secreted by various species of wood degrading fungi to assist the process of wood degradation. It can oxidise analytically relevant sugars as cellobiose, lactose or glucose leading to a gain of two electrons per sugar molecule. CDH consists of a flavin containing catalytic domain (DH) and a haem containing electron mediating domain (CYT).

Utilization of Wild Fruit in Mozambique – Drying of Vangueria infausta (African medlar)

Popular Abstract in English In Mozambique, many wild fruit species occur naturally in forest environments. Most of the wild fruits are consumed fresh because of their short shelf-life when ripe. Forests play an important role in rural communities as a source of food and medicinal and social/cultural services and also provide a source of income when fruits are sold at local markets. Some parts of MVangueria infausta (African medlar) is a wild fruit found in southern and central Mozambique. The ripe fruit has a leathery skin enclosing three to five seeds embedded in a soft pulp that tastes like apple. It plays an important role in the diet of the rural population and has the potential for commercial use. The fruit is mostly eaten fresh, and sometimes mixed with porridges, but in some parts

An assessment of the carbon balance of Arctic tundra: comparisons among observations, process models, and atmospheric inversions

Although Arctic tundra has been estimated to cover only 8% of the global land surface, the large and potentially labile carbon pools currently stored in tundra soils have the potential for large emissions of carbon (C) under a warming climate. These emissions as radiatively active greenhouse gases in the form of both CO2 and CH4 could amplify global warming. Given the potential sensitivity of thes

Exclusive photoproduction of excited quarkonia in ultraperipheral collisions

In this paper, we discuss the exclusive photoproduction of ground and excited states of ψ(1S,2S) and ϒ(1S,2S) in ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs). Using the potential model in order to obtain the vector meson wave function, we find a good agreement of our calculations with data from the LHC and HERA colliders for J/ψ(1S,2S) and ϒ(1S) in γp collisions. We extend the calculations to the nuclear tar

Hadronic rescattering in pA and AA collisions

In a recent article we presented a model for hadronic rescattering, and some results were shown for pp collisions at LHC energies. In order to extend the studies to pA and AA collisions, the Angantyr model for heavy-ion collisions is taken as the starting point. Both these models are implemented within the general-purpose Monte Carlo event generator Pythia, which makes the matching reasonably stra

A Virtual Smash Room for Venting Frustration or Just Having Fun: Participatory Design of Virtual Environments in Digitally Reinforced Cancer Rehabilitation

Background:Cancer rehabilitation is central for helping patients and relatives create a functional everyday life based on the changes in life conditions. The needs are highly individual and include physical, mental, and social challenges. Cancer rehabilitation programs offer coping strategies, including guidelines on how to handle emotions. Objective:This paper presents a participatory design activ

IEA SHC Task 61 / EBC Annex 77 Integrated Solutions for Daylighting and Electric Lighting / Subtask D: Lab and Field Study Performance Tracking

The recently launched IEA SHC Task 61 aims at fostering the integration of daylighting and electric lighting solutions for the benefit of higher user satisfaction and energy savings at the same time. In order to drastically reduce the energy use of buildings daylighting, electric lighting and associated controls must be integrated, and the role of the user should be considered in the integration p

D 2.2 Mapping of forest ecosystem services and institutional frameworks : Final report

Promoting or upscaling governance and business innovations requires an understanding about the conditions and contexts that support a particular innovation. Indeed, context can importantly condition the emergence of new ideas as well as their stabilization and system-level uptake. Ecosystems and the services they provide can be considered this kind of context for innovations because they vary acro

Pancreatic cancer : Disease dynamics, tumor biology and the role of the microenvironment

Pancreatic cancer is known for its propensity to metastasize. Recent studies have challenged the commonly held belief that pancreatic cancer is a stepwise process, where tumor cells disseminate late in primary tumor development. Instead it has been suggested that pancreatic tumor cells may disseminate early and develop independently and in parallel to the primary tumor. Circulating tumor cells can

Characterization of in vivo noradrenaline release from superior cervical ganglia or fetal locus coeruleus transplanted to the subcortically deafferented hippocampus in the rat

Solid grafts of autologous superior cervical ganglia (SCG) or fetal locus coeruleus (LC) were implanted unilaterally into a fimbria-fornix lesion cavity adjacent to the hippocampal formation after a 6-hydroxydopamine lesion of the intrinsic noradrenergic system. Twelve to 15 months after transplantation, one microdialysis probe was implanted in the dorsal hippocampus ipsilateral to the graft, and
