The Weichselian in southern Sweden and southwestern Baltic Sea : glacial stratigraphy, palaeoenvironments and deglaciation chronology

I den här studien fokuserar vi på ÖstIn this thesis the Weichselian glaciation history of southernmost Sweden and the southwestern Baltic Basin is discussed, with special emphasis on Middle and Late Weichselian ice advances and subsequent deglaciations. The main study area was Kriegers Flak in the southwestern Baltic Sea where pre-Late Weichselian sediments were identified. We suggest that the lowermost till on Kriegers Flak, dated t

Islands of Merit- Explaining Partial “Meritocratization” in the Egyptian Bureaucracy

Distinctive new features of the Egyptian bureaucracy have followed the process of economic liberalization and privatization that began in 1991. The Egyptian bureaucracy is excessively large and suffers from inefficiencies and low capacity, but dealing with prioritized policy areas, such as privatization, experts have been recruited to so called “Technical Offices” that are closely tied to the cabi

Party Autonomy in European Family and Succession Law

Abstract In this contribution, party autonomy is discussed in relation toEuropean family and succession law. The topic is briefly introduced, followedby a survey covering the main EU-instruments with particular emphasis onthe parties’ possibility to influence choice of court and law by agreements. Thus, autonomy as described in this contribution embraces both prorogationand choice of law. The contr

Cold War Conduct : Knowledge Transfer, Psychological Defence, and Media Preparedness in Denmark Between Sweden, Norway, and NATO, 1954–1967

Employing the Foucauldian term ‘conduct’, this article explores how social resilience and morale became a target of state intervention in Denmark during the Cold War. ‘Psychological defence’ was a Cold War phenomenon designed to bring an imagined future war into a space of control as well as a tool for the authorities’ exercise of power in case another world war became a reality. Advocating a meth

Possibilities with Probabilistic Methods for Dynamic Building Energy Simulations using Stochastic Input Data : – Initial Analysis

As observed in earlier studies, there is evidently a performance gap between the predicted annual energy use from building performance simulations basedon traditional deterministic methods compared to the monitored annual energy use of a building. The hypothesis is that using a probabilistic method makes it possible to consider the uncertainties in the input data and quantify the overall uncertainAs observed in earlier studies, there is evidently a performance gap between the predicted annual energy use from building performance simulations based on traditional deterministic methods compared to the monitored annual energy use of a building. Required to be creative : Everyday ways for dealing with inaccessibility

Today’s society promises that people with disabilities can access anything, but in practice there are numerous obstacles, and the ways in which people deal with them can be easily missed or taken for granted by policy makers. Exploring Prospects for Agonistic Encounters in Conflict Zones : Investigating Dual Narrative Tourism in Israel/Palestine

This article contributes to the emerging literature on possibilities to disseminate agonistic narratives in seemingly deadlocked conflict settings. In this context, conflict parties’ existence is often perceived as being under threat, which makes it demanding to question the current societal order. However, even in the most protracted of conflicts, narratives exist that challenge concurring undersThis article contributes to the emerging literature on possibilities to disseminate agonistic narratives in seemingly deadlocked conflict settings. Experimental comparison of Q-fog and residential sprinklers in a residential fire scenario

In this report, the effectiveness of a detector-activated water mist system, Q-fog, has been compared to traditional residential sprinklers. In total, eight tests were performed with a realistic fuel (bed with pillow and duvet) based on the test procedure described in LPS 1655. The bed was placed at different locations in the room and was ignited at the pillow and below the bed, also according to In this report, the effectiveness of a detector-activated water mist system, Q-fog, has been compared to traditional residential sprinklers. Energy Communities: a transition towards a more just energy system?

We use energy in almost every aspect of our lives. Yet, often, we do not know the source of electricity that powers our homes or heats our food. In this episode, we explore energy communities as a form of decentralised and democratic energy production. Community energy sees people coming together to take control of their energy needs, by finding alternative ways to organise and govern the energy sWe use energy in almost every aspect of our lives. The ethics of regenerative medicine

Most developments in regenerative medicine have in common that there are many uncertainties and knowledge gaps. These features make the evaluation of long-term consequences of the available options difficult and have consequences for the ethical issues raised. This paper presents an overview of ethical issues raised in regenerative medicine, using as a starting point a list of stakeholders and theMost developments in regenerative medicine have in common that there are many uncertainties and knowledge gaps. Effects on the manufacturing, utility and construction industries of decarbonization of the energy-intensive and natural resource-based industries

Decarbonizing the energy-intensive and natural resource-based industries is possible but may sub-stantially increase the cost of production. Whether such cost increases will reduce economic welfare depends on how the downstream industries respond to the higher cost for intermediate goods. In this paper, we explore how downstream industries in the EU15 responded to upstream carbon technology shocks

Doing responsible parenthood: Parental involvement in young children’s education in urban South Korea and Singapore

Questions around parental involvement in education, not only in in East Asia but also in a global context, are significant, given the increased concern in ‘population quality’ and the ever-growing education market. South Korea and Singapore are widely recognized for their competitive education systems and for consistently topping international student assessment tests. Union Density in Norway and Sweden: Stability versus Decline

The aim is to explain why union density is not only considerably higher in the Ghent country Sweden than in non-Ghent Norway but also why it has declined much more in Sweden, in par-ticular among blue-collar workers. We show how changes to Swedish unemployment insurance in 2007–2013 were followed by a decline in union density and how white-collar unions were more successful than blue-collar unionsThe aim is to explain why union density is not only considerably higher in the Ghent country Sweden than in non-Ghent Norway but also why it has declined much more in Sweden, in particular among blue-collar workers. Molecular dynamics-based characterisation of early oxide in Fe/Cr alloys

The addition of Cr is known to work as an effective prevention against oxidation in Fe-based alloys. This can be attributed to the peripheral oxide, the structure of which is dependent on the composition of the alloy. Using Molecular Dynamic (MD) calculations with a Reactive Force Field (ReaxFF) potential, we successfully identify several oxide structures arising during initial oxide formation in The addition of Cr is known to work as an effective prevention against oxidation in Fe-based alloys. The desert-governess romance : Regency England meets exotic Arabia

In this article we discuss how two types of popular romances – the desert romance and the governess romance – have blended into what we refer to as the desert-governess romance. In the world of romance, the governess and the sheikh may be an odd couple but they do make good bedfellows. Plant-based food – Purchasing intentions, barriers and drivers among different organic consumer groups in Denmark

How do we design policies that support a shift in eating habits towards a diet that includes more vegetable-basedproducts and less meat, and in particular red meat? To inform policy, more information is needed about consumers’perceptions of the plant-based protein alternatives that have become available on the market. Post hoc interventions and the General Data Protection Regulation

Post hoc interventions rely on having access to certain personal data - such as the gender, age, ethnicity, and sexual orientation of the persons being evaluated - in order to detect and correct for prejudice. This brings these interventions into possible tension with pertinent data protection legislation, which might restrict the processing of said data. We discuss the compatibility of post hoc i
