The hydrogenation of CO2 into methanol by a nickel pincer catalyst has been studied in both aqueous and solid–gas phases. Hydrogenation occurs at the moderate temperatures of 60–95 °C. The solid–gas phase reaction is found to be more efficient than the aqueous reaction. At 95 °C and 1 MPa of H2/CO2 (3:1), 18 μmol of methanol is generated in the optimized solid–gas phase reaction versus 10 μmol in

In the current global scenario, it is evident that global warming and climate change are primarily driven by emissions stemming from the utilization of fossil fuels. Yet, if we look around, most of what we see is made from or linked to fossil fuels and it clearly shows our over-dependency on fossil fuels and hence there is a significant need to develop alternate sources of energy and raw materials

Xenergic

Xenergic is developing technology intended to reduce electricity consumption by more than half in certain types of memory circuits, with the aim of prolonging battery life in connected products. The technology deals with a new type of SRAM memory developed at the Department of Electrical and Information Technology at Lund University’s Faculty of Engineering. SRAM is a type of computer memory whic

Using a variety of dedicated surface sensitive techniques, we studied the interaction of hydrogen with bare and adsorbate modified RuO2(110) surfaces on the atomic scale. Hydrogen interacts strongly with the undercoordinated O atoms, thereby forming hydroxyl groups and passivating available oxygen species on the oxide surface, for instance, for the catalytic CO oxidation reaction. Temperature prog

Popular Abstract in English This thesis is concerned with the efficient generation of ultra-short light pulses, far beyond the visible spectral range. Such light pulses can reach durations below 100 attoseconds, where one attosecond is one billionth of a billionth of a second. Why do we want to generate such extreme light pulses? Our knowledge of basic processes in physics and chemistry is to a

The high-resolution far-infrared absorption spectrum of the intermolecular HCl libration band nu(6)(1) (nu(B)) of the gaseous molecular complex (HCN)-C-12-HCl and the two isotopically substituted species (HCN)-C-13-HCl and (DCN)-C-12-HCl is recorded by means of static gas-phase Fourier transform far-infrared spectroscopy at 205 K using an electron storage ring source. The rotational structure of t

With the current movement towards Net Zero Energy Buildings (Net ZEBs) decisions regarding energy carrier weighting factors will have implications on which technologies could be favoured or disfavoured, and therefore adopted or not adopted, in the building sector of the near future. These implications should be taken into consideration by policy makers when developing legislation and regulations a

Growth and hydrogen production by two extreme thermophiles during sugar fermentation was investigated. In cultures of Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus grown on sucrose and Thermotoga elfii grown on glucose stoichiometries of 3.3 mol of hydrogen and 2 mol of acetate per mol C6-sugar unit were obtained. The hydrogen level was about 83% of the theoretical maximum. C. saccharolyticus and T. elfi

Formation of metal hydrides is a serious complication that occur when hydride forming metals such as zirconium, niobium, vanadium and magnesium are exposed to long term hydrogen environment. The main concern is that the hydride, as being a brittle material, has very poor fracture mechanical properties. Formation of hydride is associated with transportation of hydrogen along the gradients of increa

The simulated fuel cell has a porous electrode layer, gas flow duct and solid current collector. In terms of friction factor and Nusselt number, the characteristics of gas flow in the duct and heat transfer at heated catalyst surface were investigated by a computational calculation method. The effects of fuel cell current density, permeability of porous diffusion layers on the generation of heat,

The infrared spectra of the H2O, HDO, and D2O complexes with ethylene, propene, cis-2-butene, trans-2-butene, 2-methylpropene, 2-methyl-2-butene, 2,3-dimethyl-2-butene, 1,3-butadiene, benzene, and naphthalene have been recorded at temperatures from 11 to 20 K. Interaction energies have been estimated. HDO prefers to form a deuterium bond to the unsaturated molecule; however, small amounts of the h

The detailed study of the time evolution of these mechanisms in their original environment is a challenging task. In this thesis we develop experimental tools and methods to enable the study of charge and energy transfer. A new ion and electron moment
