Responsible for roughly 40 % of global greenhouse gas emissions, energy usefor heating and cooling in the built environment constitutes a significant portionof annual total carbon emissions. The effort to decarbonise the heating andcooling sector necessitates efficient production, distribution and end use ofenergy. In this context, district heating and cooling is considered one of thecost-efficien

The dilution effect of N-2/CO2 on the laminar burning velocity of H-2-CO-O-2 mixtures was investigated. The dilution fraction of N-2 and CO2 in the unburned mixtures varied from 0% to 70% and 0%-50%, respectively, and H-2 content in H-2-CO fuels altered from 5% to 100%. All the studies were carried out at standard laboratory conditions (1 atm, 298 K) with equivalence ratio changing from 0.6 to 2.0

Based on the context of a developing country, this research engages key identified political-economy aspects that influence the operations and performance of the electricity supply industry in Tanzania. Departing from this political-economy perspective, this paper explores dencentralized approaches to rural electrification through agro-industry co-generation and influencing factors behind the slow

This paper compares conditions and costs for RES-E grid connection in selected European countries. These are Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Austria, Lithuania and Slovenia. Country specific case studies are presented for wind onshore and offshore, biomass and photovoltaic power systems, as based on literature reviews and stakeholder interviews. It is shown that, especially f

A piezoelectric micro mass flow controller (MMFC) for liquid fuel injection into a mini-HCCI-motor for power generation is introduced. Piezoelectric actuation ensures negligible power consumption for fuel injection allowing self-sustaining operation. A pressurized fuel tank is connected to the MMFC which is designed like a normally-closed, on-/off-operating valve. Integrated piezoresistors are use

Dynamical and statistical fragment emission processes in 200 A MeV Ne-20 + Ar-40 collisions are well probed by measurements of charge (Z), mass (A) and momentum vector ((p) over right arrow) of all fragments in large parts of the available momentum space. We present such data obtained at the cluster-jet target of the CELSIUS storage ring, for the first time with an internal, ultra-high vacuum (UHV

After a historic introduction, today's wind power technology is reviewed on a systems level, with some details, and with some brave suggestions for wind technology 2030 when power electronics (PE) will be some 2000 GW. Eternal themes like "electricity storage" are avoided. Aspects of drive-trains in towers and collection grids in parks are concisely described in the paper's core, including: 1) a p

For ultra-wideband (UWB) communication, Rake receivers using matched filter detection show the best performance but they are complex to realize due to the inherent channel estimation problem and combining problem. Transmitted reference schemes, on the other hand, allow for a less complex receiver structure that is able to combine the energy from different multipath components without channel estim

Fuel and load flexibility have been increasingly important features of industrial gas turbines in order to meet the demand for increased utilization of renewable fuels and to provide a way to balance the grid fluctuations due to the unsteady supply of wind and solar power. Experimental investigations were performed using a standard 3rd generation dry low emission (DLE) burner under atmospheric pre

Time-resolved in situ, energy-dispersive X-ray absorption spectroscopy and mass spectrometry are used to correlate changes in the chemical state of alumina- and ceria-supported palladium nanoparticles with changes in activity and selectivity for methane oxidation. Specifically, modulation excitation spectroscopy experiments are carried out by periodically cycling between net-reducing and net-oxidi

The recent upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) benefits searches for new physics phenomena using multijet final states. The increased center-of-mass energy opens new possibilities to probe new physics at scales beyond the Tera-electron volt (TeV), especially in di-jet final states. However, in the sub-TeV mass region, the QCD background to dijet searches is overwhelming and not all events c
