In TN 18.057 a nonlinear system with a white noise forcing function was analyzed. In this note we will study a first order linear system 'which has a white noise forcing function and white noise paramneter fluctuations. The results are derived from the Fokker-Planck equation. It is found that the boundaries are always natural which means that no boundary conditions can be applied.

Objectives: We sought to examine the associations between occupation and upper aerodigestive tract cancers at various anatomic sites. Methods: The Swedish Family-Cancer Database was used to calculate standardized incidence ratios for different occupational groups, adjusted for age, period, and socioeconomic status. Results: Male dentists showed an increased risk for tongue cancer; hairdressers had

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between cognitive reserve (CR) and clinical progression across the Alzheimer disease (AD) spectrum. METHODS: We selected 839 β-amyloid (Aβ)-positive participants with normal cognition (NC, n = 175), mild cognitive impairment (MCI, n = 437), or AD dementia (n = 227) from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI). CR was quantified using standa

En förhöjd ämnesomsättniHuntington´s disease (HD) is a fatal inherited neurodegenerative disorder caused by a CAG triplet repeat expansion in the huntingtin (HTT) gene and characterized by cognitive and motoric dysfunctions as well as psychiatric problems. Accumulating evidence, however, suggests altered energy metabolism and a hyper-catabolic state as key features of HD pathology. In clinical HD, body weight has been sh

Using resources shared within a social group – either in a cooperative or a competitive way - requires keeping track of own and others’ actions, which, in turn, requires well-developed short-term memory. Although short-term memory has been tested in social mammal species, little is known about this capacity in highly social birds, such as ravens. We compared ravens (Corvus corax) with humans in sp

Soil mapping is an essential method for obtaining a spatial overview of soil resources that are increasingly threatened by environmental change and population pressure. Despite recent advances in digital soil-mapping techniques based on inference, such methods are still immature for large-scale soil mapping. During the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, soil scientists constructed a harmonised soil map of Eu

The nematode trapping fungus Arthrobotrys oligospora produces an extracellular serine protease (designated PII) that immobilizes free-living nematodes in bioassays and hydrolyses proteins of the nematode cuticle. Peptides were isolated from PII and partly sequenced. Three internal peptide sequences were used to design synthetic oligonucleotides, which allowed the subsequent isolation of the gene e

The objective of this work is to provide governmental agencies and the society a condensed overview of the current state of knowledge on the efficiency of applied restoration and remediation of areas affected by radioactive fallout. The most actual real-world case is the Fukushima accident in Japan in 2011: the accident and the following applied decontamination methods are in focus in this review

Social bees are central place foragers collecting floral resources from the surrounding landscape, but little is known about the probability of a scouting bee finding a particular flower patch. We therefore developed a software tool, BEESCOUT, to theoretically examine how bees might explore a landscape and distribute their scouting activities over time and space. An image file can be imported, whi

The international development community is transitioning from the era of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), ending in 2015, to the era of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which have a 2030 target. Global development assistance for health (DAH) increased substantially in the MDGs era, from US $10.8 billion in 2001 to $28.1 billion by 2012 (in 2010 US dollars), and it played a crucial

Judgement and decision-making are central activities in all professions. No matter which profession a practitioner belongs to, or which clients a practitioner is working with, he or she is regularly trying to find answers to the questions “what is the case?” and “what ought to be done?” When professionals are trying to find justifiable answers to such questions, they are reasoning. In this article

First, the printed journal is analysed in accordance with Unsworth (1997), focusing on how the resources of text, images and graphics are deployed in scientific explanation and how the meaning is constructed by the visuals. Second, the interpretative process of meaning-making is uncovered by think aloud protocols. In order to produce an aural version of the complex text, the interpreter must asses

Background: Change in the prevalence of raised blood pressure could be due to both shifts in the entire distribution of blood pressure (representing the combined effects of public health interventions and secular trends) and changes in its high-blood-pressure tail (representing successful clinical interventions to control blood pressure in the hypertensive population). Our aim was to quantify the

The natriuretic peptide system (NPS) plays a fundamental role in maintaining cardiorenal homeostasis, and its potent filling pressure-regulated diuretic and vasodilatory effects constitute a beneficial compensatory mechanism in heart failure (HF). Leveraging the NPS for therapeutic benefit in HF has been the subject of intense investigation during the last three decades and has ultimately reached

An important part of Sweden’s first freedom of religion act, passed in 1951, was citizens’ right not to practice a religion. The post-World War II generations lived in an increasingly secularized paradigm. In this context, Göran Göransson was a very knowledgeable and influential jurist who not only practiced ecclesiastical law within the Swedish church but also served as a departmental jurist acti
