Accomodating Individuality

In an attempt to bridge the gap between the multitude of individuals among consumers and the relatively few varieties of product design intended to suit these users, 'Accommodating Individuality' explores a few different theoretical approaches. Traditional and new forms of user involvement, including participatory design and menuing, are examined but found to fall short in several aspects

Har jag jobbat gratis? - Om entreprenörens möjlighet att få sina forceringskostnader ersatta av beställaren

The use of pesticides in Lunds private gardens and how it relates to other biodiversity measures

Pesticides or plant protection products (PPP) protect plants from harmful organisms and prevent the spread of invasive species. However, their use is not without problems, as pesticides can have harmful effects on the environment. One of these effects is reduced biodiversity, as pesticides often affect non-target organisms and change water and soil composition. Reduced diversity through the cleari

Person-Centredness of Performance Measurement in Swedish Primary Care: National Initiatives in Regional Accreditation Documents

This study examines how national healthcare initiatives focused on person-centered care are put into practice within Sweden's healthcare system. It analyses how these national policies are represented and implemented in accreditation documents across six Swedish regions—Skåne, Västra Götaland, Jönköping, Halland, Kronoberg, and Östergötland. The research uses qualitative document analysis to e

In recent years, LARP events (live action role playing) have become more popular in Sweden and permanent buildings have been built in a number of LARP event areas. But despite that a desire for good event management may exist, the knowledge may be lacking. This master thesis aims to study the risks and dependencies on LARP events with the goal to answer the question: “What should be included in sa

Intrinsic and extrinsic factors controlling the differentiation of human midbrain progenitor cells

Levodopa treatment provides marked symptomatic relief. However, within 5-10 years after the start of Levodopa treatment, most PD patients display a gradual loss of drug efficacy. Importantly, the neuropathology of PD is dominated by a marked loss of dopaminergic neurons located in the substantia nigra.

Co-payments for additional care in publicly funded healthcare systems: ethical issues

Public health care systems face major challenges. The burden of resource constraints and continuous demands of rationings urge decision makers in countries like Sweden, Norway and the UK to find new financial solutions. One proposal that has been put forward is co-payment, where patients are given the option to pay the public healthcare provider for additional care, or more expensive alternatives,

Hög diabetesrisk bland icke-västerländska invandrare : Riktad och strukturerad prevention behövs

Political instability the last decades has forced millions of people to migrate from their homelands. In Sweden today, 1.6 million are born abroad, of which the largest immigrant groups originate from the Middle East. Immigrants from these areas represent high risk populations for type 2 diabetes with prevalence of type 2 diabetes twice as high compared to the native Swedish population. Vertical drop jump landing depth influences knee kinematics in female recreational athletes

ObjectivesTo examine whether different vertical drop jump (VDJ) landing depth (small versus deep) and stance width (wide versus narrow) may alter movement biomechanics in female recreational athletes. The purpose was also to identify whether leg muscle strength is a predictive factor for knee control during a VDJ.DesignCross-sectional.SettingBiomechanics laboratory. Participants: Eighteen women ag

From Paper Patterns to Patterns-on-Fabric : Home Sewing in Sweden 1881–1981

From the end of the nineteenth century and one hundred years onward, home sewing was an important part of many women’s duties, but it was also a pleasure, something that existed parallel with the emerging mass-produced ready-to-wear industry. The paper patterns used for home dressmaking were often sold and distributed through women’s magazines. Analysis of clinical knowledge, absenteeism and availability of resources for maternal and child health : a cross-sectional quality of care study in 10 African countries

OBJECTIVE: Assess the quality of healthcare across African countries based on health providers' clinical knowledge, their clinic attendance and drug availability, with a focus on seven conditions accounting for a large share of child and maternal mortality in sub-Saharan Africa: malaria, tuberculosis, diarrhoea, pneumonia, diabetes, neonatal asphyxia and postpartum haemorrhage.METHODS: With nation

Worldwide First Successful and Reproducable Long-Term Survival up to Half a Year : Completed Preclinical Study with Life-Supporting Orthotopic Pig-to-Baboon Cardiac Xenotransplantation (oXHTx) Fullfilling the ISHLT Prerequisite for Clinical Cardiac Xenotransplantation

PURPOSE: Major hurdles in oXHTx are the delayed xenograft rejection, the early perioperative cardiac xenograft dysfunction (PCXD) and the pig heart overgrowth, which were solved in this study with a costimulation blockade, a new non-ischemic cold preservation and a growth inhibition by anti-proliferative drugs. Aim was to achieve a 90-days-survival of minimal 60% (6 of 10 baboons) in this life-sup

Membership in the digital era : Swedish trade unions’ use of Internet and social media

The aim of the article is to explore trade unions’ use of Internet and social media in communicating with members and to understand membership in the digital era. A point of departure is that new forms of relationships between individuals and organizations are on the rise as our present societies become more digitalized, which has changed how citizens interact, mobilize, and organize. Value at Risk - The Square Root Rule

This paper tests the “Square Root Rule” (the SRR), a Basel sanctioned method of scaling 1-day Value At risk to higher time horizons. The SRR has come under serious assault from leading researchers focusing on its week theoretical basis: assuming i.i.d. asset returns. I performed an empirical test of the SRR on the 10-day horizon, the maximum horizon allowed by Basel, comparing SRR performance to d

Groups acting on rooted trees : Dimension, subgroups, randomness and dynamics

This thesis is devoted to the study of different aspects of groups acting on rooted trees and their applications.First, we focus on the Hausdorff dimension of groups acting on rooted trees. We develop new tools that lead to the solution of several well-known open problems in the subject due to Abért-Virág, Bartholdi, Grigorchuk, Klopsch and Shalev among others.Secondly, we study many aspects of thThis thesis is devoted to the study of different aspects of groups acting on rooted trees and their applications.First, we focus on the Hausdorff dimension of groups acting on rooted trees.
