X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA) is a hereditary immunodeficiency caused by variations in the gene encoding for Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK). Patients with XLA have decreased numbers of mature B cells, lack all immunoglobulin isotypes, and therefore have susceptibility to severe bacterial infections.
