Exploring Lexicalized Features for Coreference Resolution

In this paper, we describe a coreference solver based on the extensive use of lexical features and features extracted from dependency graphs of the sentences. The solver uses Soon et al. (2001)'s classical resolution algorithm based on a pairwise classification of the mentions. We applied this solver to the closed track of the CoNLL 2011 shared task (Pradhan et al., 2011). We carried out a system

On the orthogonality of dual-polarized channels with Rician fading

Abstract in UndeterminedIn this paper, the orthogonality of dual-polarized MIMO channels with Rician fading is investigated in a measured urban macrocellular scenario. Overall, efficient two-stream MIMO communication can be achieved as more than 70% of the measured route achieves better channel orthogonality than the average performance of the reference IID Rayleigh channel. Furthermore, the study

Telco Clouds: Modelling and Simulation

In this paper, we propose a telco cloud meta-model that can be used to simulate different infrastructure con- figurations and explore their consequences on the system performance and costs. To achieve this, we analyse current telecommunication and data centre infrastructure paradigms, describe the architecture of the telco cloud and detail the benefits of merging both infrastructures in a unified

Six-port antennas for experimental verification of six degrees-of-freedom in wireless channels

In 2001, a paper published in Nature by Andrews et al postulated the use of six co-located antennas, namely three electric and three magnetic dipoles, to achieve up to a six-fold capacity increase in wireless channels, relative to that of a single antenna. In other words, six degrees of freedom (DOFs) can be supported in a wireless channel with co-located six-port transmit and receive antenna arra

On capacity improvement using multisector cooperative MIMO in a real urban macrocellular environment

For the first time, the capacity gain of multisector cooperative multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) using all three 120 degree sectors of a base station (BS) site is studied in a measured urban macrocellular environment at 2.65GHz. The results reveal that the mean uplink capacity gain exceeds 40% in as much as 1/4 of the coverage area, relative to the best single-sector link with no cooperation.

Estimation of Spherical Wave Coefficients from 3D Positioner Channel Measurements

Electromagnetic vector spherical waves have been used recently to model antenna channel interaction and the available degrees of freedom in MIMO systems. However, there are no previous accounts of a method to estimate spherical wave coefficients from channel measurements. One approach, using a 3D positioner, is presented in this letter, both in theory and practice. Measurement results are present

An Area Efficient Single-Cycle xVDD Sub-Vth on-Chip Boost Scheme in 28 nm FD-SOI

An on-chip, low power, and area efficient charge-pump (CP) that generates a multiple of the supply voltage (VDD) in a single clock cycle is presented. The proposed CP utilizes parallel cross-connected CP units, which are implemented using MIM (metal-insulator-metal) capacitors. In the target application, i.e., a sub-threshold SRAM, the capacitors are accommodated on top of the memory banks to remo

Supporting Semantic Capture during Kinesthetic Teaching of Collaborative Industrial Robots

Industrial robot systems being deployed today do not contain domain knowledge to aid robot operators in setup and operational use. To gather such knowledge in a robot context requires mechanisms for entering and capturing semantic data, that will gradually build a working vocabulary while interacting with environment and operators, for bootstrapping system knowledge and ensuring data collection ov

Statistical Identification of Pleonastic Pronouns

This paper describes an algorithm to identify pleonastic pronouns using statistical techniques. The training step uses a coreference annotated corpus of English and focuses on a set of pronouns such as it. As far as we know, there is no corpus with a pleonastic annotation. The main idea of the algorithm was then to recast the definition of pleonastic pronouns as pronouns that never occur in a core

Interaction patterns in human augmented mapping

Interactive robots can benefit from learning from humans in situated communications, for instance in a guided tour, where the human user explains the environment to a mobile robot, or from being instructed to handle a specific task in an industrial setting. We have to assume that human users do not always give unambiguous or consistent information, which might result in inconsistent information be

A 38pJ/b Optimal Soft-MIMO Detector

An optimal soft multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) detector is proposed with linear complexity for a general spatial multiplexing system with two transmitting symbols and NR ≥ 2 receiving antennas. The computational complexity of the proposed scheme is independent of the operating signal-tonoise ratio (SNR) and grows linearly with the constellation order. It provides the soft maximum-likelihood

Efficient algorithms for robust estimation of relative translation

One of the key challenges for structure from motion systems in order to make them robust to failure is the ability to handle outliers among the correspondences. In this paper we present two new algorithms that find the optimal solution in the presence of outliers when the camera undergoes a pure translation. The first algorithm has polynomial-time computational complexity, independently of the amo

On a fixed-point algorithm for structured low-rank approximation and estimation of half-life parameters

We study the problem of decomposing a measured signal as a sum of decaying exponentials. There is a direct connection to sums of these types and positive semi-definite (PSD) Hankel matrices, where the rank of these matrices equals the number of exponentials. We propose to solve the identification problem by forming an optimization problem with a misfit function combined with a rank penalty functio
