Differences in the radiological characteristics between post-traumatic and non-traumatic knee osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee can be defined as primary (non-traumatic) or secondary (post-traumatic). Both non-traumatic OA and post-traumatic OA have been described predominantly in the medial compartment of the knee. The objective of this study was to compare the location of structural radiographic changes in non-traumatic OA and post-traumatic OA. A non-traumatic cohort, consisting of 155 pa

Doping of semiconductor nanowires

A cornerstone in the successful application of semiconductor nanowire devices is controlled impurity doping. In this review article, we discuss the key results in the field of semiconductor nanowire doping. Considerable development has recently taken place in this field, and half of the references in this review are less than 3 years old. We present a simple model for dopant incorporation during i

Effectiveness and tolerability of second-line therapy with vildagliptin vs. other oral agents in type 2 diabetes: A real-life worldwide observational study (EDGE)

AimReal-life studies are needed to confirm the clinical relevance of findings from randomised controlled trials (RCTs). This study aimed to assess the effectiveness and tolerability of vildagliptin add-on vs. other oral antihyperglycaemic drugs (OADs) added to OAD monotherapy in a real-life setting, and to explore the advantages and limitations of large-scale pragmatic' trials. MethodsEDGE was a p

Arthroplasty for Femoral Neck Fracture. Results of a nationwide implementation.

Hip fractures are devastating for the individual and a substantial economic burden for society. The treatment for displaced femoral neck fracture is a choice between internal fixation, total hip arthroplasty and hemiarthroplasty. As a result of several randomized trials, the treatment has shifted in Sweden from mostly internal fixation towards arthroplasties. There have been concerns about long-te

Effects of momentum-dependent self-energy in the electronic structure of correlated materials

We study how the k dependence in the self-energy affects the quasiparticle band structure and one-particle spectral functions. It is known that, in electron-gas-like materials, the self-energy depends significantly on k and there is a strong cancellation between the k dependence and the energy dependence of the self-energy. Analysis of the GW self-energy reveals that, even in correlated materials

Energy Security and Climate Change Mitigation as Combined Areas of Analysis in Contemporary Research

Climate change mitigation and energy security are partly interacting areas that both present future challenges. The extensive research underway within these areas is mainly conducted in separate research communities, although there are some integrative efforts. This paper examines the breadth and heterogeneity involved in treating energy security and climate change mitigation as a combined researc

"Orden med krona och fågelsång" : om språk och stil, genre och drama i förslaget

Det nya handboksförslaget granskas med avseende på språk och stil och med avseende på strukturen i gudstjänsten. Flera kritiska synpunkter på språk och stil ges, och placeringen av syndabekännelsen i gudstjänstens inledning liksom placeringen av förbönen mellan predikan och nattvard kritiseras, detta med utgångspunkt från hermeneutiska insikter, och från dramaturgisk analys.

The influence of porous silicon on axonal outgrowth in vitro.

Axonal outgrowth on smooth and porous silicon surfaces was studied in organ culture. The pore size of the silicon substrata varied between 100 and 1500 nm. We found that axons preferred to grow and elongate on porous silicon surfaces only when pores of (150-500 nm) are available.

Testing for Rationality, Separability and Efficiency

En majoritet av de tThis thesis aims to propose, evaluate and apply test procedures for rationality, weak separability and efficiency. In particular, it focuses on nonparametric revealed preference procedures. This approach has the advantage of not having to stipulate any functional form for the utility function, unlike the parametric approach which relies on finding a suitable functional form for the utility functio

Components of uncertainty in species distribution analysis: a case study of the Great Grey Shrike

Sophisticated statistical analyses are common in ecological research, particularly in species distribution modeling. The effects of sometimes arbitrary decisions during the modeling procedure on the final outcome are difficult to assess, and to date are largely unexplored. We conducted an analysis quantifying the contribution of uncertainty in each step during the model-building sequence to variat

Understory succession in post-agricultural oak forests: Habitat fragmentation affects forest specialists and generalists differently

The herbaceous understory forms the richest stratum in temperate broadleaved forests in terms of plant diversity. Understanding the process of understory succession is thus of critical importance for the development of management guidelines for biodiversity restoration in post-agricultural plantation forests. We studied effects of stand age, forest fragmentation, and soil and canopy conditions on

Leadership On Demand: Followers as initiators and inhibitors of managerial leadership

A key aspect of leadership is the followers’ constructions of its value and relevance. Based on two empirical, qualitative case studies, this paper highlights the importance of the ‘demand’ for leadership when leader–follower relationships are established. We further discuss how followers influence, inhibit and initiate managerial leadership (i.e. leadership acts from their formal superior targeti

Flow sensing in the cardiovascular system

Background: This contribution deals with chemical processes at the biological membranes of endothelial cells in blood vessels. A basic observation is that the intensity of blood flow navigates the vascular width through a negative feedback circle. When the blood flow increases, the vessels become wider; when it decreases the vascular smooth muscle cells contract. The anionic polyelectrolyte hepara

Steven Spielberg's film Saving Private Ryan is at the centre of this text, with a particular focus on how it displays the past in ways that place the audience in the middle of the historical action. By looking at various technical breakthroughs predating this film, it is argued that what we here see is the beginning of a new kind of 360-degree historiography that nowadays dominates historical epic
