I dagsläget energiåtervinner vi största delen av vårt producerade avfall i Sverige, men under 1900-talet var deponering en flitigt använd metod att hantera avfall på. Eftersom deponeringen av avfall sedan slutet av 1990-talet minskat kraftigt förväntas produktionen av gas som bildas under avfallets nedbrytning i framtiden att minska. Detta får till följd att dagens lösningar att använda gasen på bLandfill gas, consisting mainly of methane and carbon dioxides, is produced on waste disposal sites which contain organic waste. The release of the gas to the environment gives rise to several environmental effects. Regulation in Sweden requires that the landfill gas is managed in some way, for example to reduce emissions. The management options are energy utilization or flaring. In a situation wi
