SLF:s vårexkursion till Värmlandsnäs 20–22 april 2018
Årets vårexkursion gick 2018 till Värmlandsnäs och Lurö i Vänern. Följande personer deltog under helgen: Ulf Arup, Toni Berglund, Linnea Ekman, Stefan Ekman, Mikael Hagström, Robin Isaksson, Linda Johannesson, Barbara Klein, Jon Klepsland, Alica Kosuthova, Björn Owe-Larsson, Gesa von Hirschheydt och Martin Westberg. Under exkursionen noterades totalt 16 nya arter för Värmland, varav en ny för Skan
Labour market regulations, changes in working life and the importance of apprenticeship training : A long-term and comparative view on youth transition from school to work
What is the significance of regulations of job contracts and wages when it comes to young people’s access to labour market? This is an issue that has attracted and continues to attract a great deal of interest in both research and politics. Proposals for deregulated employment protection and reduced entry-level pay recur regularly in public debate. Phase-controlled intermittent intratracheal insufflation of oxygen during chest compression-active decompression mCPR improves coronary perfusion pressure over continuous insufflation
Purpose: It has previously been shown that continuous intratracheal insufflation of oxygen (CIO) is superior to intermittent positive pressure ventilation (IPPV) regarding gas exchange and haemodynamics. The purpose of this study was to investigate gas exchanged and haemodynamics with a new technique of phase-controlled intermittent insufflation of oxygen (PIIO) compared to CIO. Method: Twenty (20
Surgical Age and Morbidity After Arterial Switch for Transposition of the Great Arteries
Background: Transposition of the great arteries (TGA) is a complex congenital heart disease that requires early diagnosis as well as advanced surgical repair and postoperative support. We sought herein to study the impact of surgical timing on early postoperative morbidity. Methods: We reviewed all patients with TGA corrected at our institution via arterial switch operation (ASO) between June 2001 Background: Transposition of the great arteries (TGA) is a complex congenital heart disease that requires early diagnosis as well as advanced surgical repair and postoperative support. Fetal iGRASP cine CMR assisting in prenatal diagnosis of complicated cardiac malformation with impact on delivery planning
Limited visualisation of the fetal heart and vessels by fetal ultrasound due to suboptimal fetal position, patient habitus and skeletal calcification may lead to missed diagnosis, overdiagnosis and parental uncertainty. Counseling and delivery planning may in those cases also be tentative. The recent fetal cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) reconstruction method utilising tiny golden angle iGRASP (i

A Variance-Reduced Multilevel Monte Carlo Algorithm for Maximum Likelihood Inference in Multivariate Diffusions
We introduce a Multilevel Monte Carlo method for approximating the transitiondensity for discretely observed multivariate diffusion processes. These areused within a Pseudo-marginal Metropolis-Hastings (PMMH) algorithm to do Bayesianinference on the parameters. The Pedersen representation shows how the transition density can be representedas a conditional expectation, but the corresponding Monte Ca
Multivariate Analysis of Orthogonal Range Searching and Graph Distances
We show that the eccentricities, diameter, radius, and Wiener index of an undirected n-vertex graph with nonnegative edge lengths can be computed in time O(n * binom{k+ceil[log n]}{k} * 2^k k^2 log n), where k is the treewidth of the graph. For every epsilon>0, this bound is n^{1+epsilon}exp O(k), which matches a hardness result of Abboud, Vassilevska Williams, and Wang (SODA 2015) and closes an o
A variational approach to the sum splitting scheme
Nonlinear parabolic equations are frequently encountered in applications and efficient approximating techniques for their solution are of great importance. In order to provide an effective scheme for the temporal approximation of such equations, we present a sum splitting scheme that comes with a straightforward parallelization strategy. The convergence analysis is carried out in a variational fra
Beamspace Modulated Circular Array
In this paper, we show how each independent spatial mode of a circular array can be individually encoded and collimated to yield high ergodic spectral sum efficiency of an uplink mobile communication system. We show that every mode generated with the help of Rotman Lens is orthogonal to every other mode. This reduces the spatial cross-coupling and thereby enhances data throughput. We also show that
Biobank and Biomedical Research: Responsibilities of Controllers and Processors under the EU General Data Protection Regulation
Biobanks are essential infrastructures in current health and biomedical research. Advanced scientific research increasingly relies on processing and correlating large amounts of genetic, clinical and behavioural data. These data are particularly sensitive in nature and the risk for privacy invasion and misuse is high. The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) developed and increased harmoni
Roundtable - "What is strike? Definition and challenges of an “old” right in a futuristic world."
It is a universally acknowledged truth that the right to strike is one of the fundamentals of labour law. But what is it exactly? To what extent should it be protected and, thus, which limits are permissible? To find a unique answer to those questions is an uneasy task. In the contemporary multilevel legal framework the right to strike is regulated by a variety of provisions, moving from internatio
Mid-Infrared Polarization Spectroscopy Measurements of Species Concentrations and Temperature in a Low-Pressure Flame
Quantitative measurements of CH4 mole fractions at different HAB in the flame were realized by a calibration measurement in a low pressure gas flow of N2 with a small admixture of known amount of CH4. A comprehensive study of the collision effects on the IRPS signal was performed in order to quantify the flame measurement. The concentration and temperature measurements were found to agree reasonab
Constant-εr Lens Beamformer for Low-Complexity Millimeter-Wave Hybrid MIMO
It is well established that the utilization of unused millimeter-wave (mmWave) spectrum is inevitable due to unavailability of required bandwidth in the conventional RF band to support the high data demands of 5G. Large antenna arrays with beamforming capabilities are required to compensate for the high path loss at mmWave frequencies. We are at the verge of a massive mmWave radio front-end deploy

Modified balanced truncation preserving ellipsoidal cone-invariance
We consider model order reduction of stable linear systems which leave ellipsoidal cones invariant. We show how balanced truncation can be modified to preserve cone- invariance. Additionally, this implies a method to perform external positivity preserving model reduction for a large class of systems.
