Centrality determination of Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=2.76 TeV with ALICE
This publication describes the methods used to measure the centrality of inelastic Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV per colliding nucleon pair with ALICE. The centrality is a key parameter in the study of the properties of QCD matter at extreme temperature and energy density, because it is directly related to the initial overlap region of the colliding nuclei. Geometrical pr
Establishing a Southern Swedish Malignant Melanoma OMICS and Biobank Clinical Capability
Background: The Southern Swedish Malignant Melanoma (SSMM) research team is a truly cross functional group with members from oncology, clinical, surgery, bioinformatics, proteomics, and genomics initiatives. The SSMM’s objectives and goals are to develop, build and utilize cutting edge biobanks and OMICS platforms to better understand disease pathology and drug mechanisms. Within the research team
COD fractionation of palm oil mill effluent: typical treatment, biodegradability and modelling
Activated sludge model (ASM) is now widely used for wastewater treatment plant design, optimization and operation. Values for parameters to be used are vital for the accuracy of the modeling approach. This study aims to establish the scientific link between typical treatment and biodegradability of different chemical oxygen demand (COD) fractionation of palm oil mill effluent (POME), by means of r
Magnetic properties of silica coated spindle-type hematite particles
Magnetic properties of particles are generally determined from randomly oriented ensembles and the influence of the particle orientation on the magnetic response is neglected. Here, we report on the magnetic characterization of anisotropic spindle-type hematite particles. The easy axis of magnetization is within the basal plane of hematite, which is oriented perpendicular to the spindle axis. Two
Radioactivity exploration from the Arctic to the Antarctic. Part 3. The SWEDARP expedition Oct 1988 – April 1989
The Swedish Antarctic Research Expedition named “SWEDARP” was performed during October 1988 through April 1989. The aim of our project was to study the radioactivity in air and water from Gothenburg to the Antarctic. Between Gothenburg and the Equator, the average activity concentration of 7Be in air was 4.3 ± 0.7 mBq/m3. The activity concentration of 7Be in the South Atlantic down to Antarctica v

Overdoses, suicidal behaviour and clinical characteristics in heavy drug users. Studies in the Criminal Justice System.
Background: Substance use disorders and complications, such as drug overdose (OD) and suicide attempt (SA), are common among criminal justice clients. Methods: Since 2001, the Swedish Prison and Probation Service has assessed substance-using clients with the Addiction Severity Index (ASI), a semi-structured instrument widely used to examine substance-related problems in different domains of life.
Using vignette methodology to research the process of breach comparatively
Comparative research related to any aspect of the process of breach in either the pretrial, sentencing or release phases is relatively rare. Comparative studies of decision making in the specific context of breach process are particularly lacking. One reason for the dearth of research in this area is the many challenges presented by comparative research across different jurisdictions. This article
EULAR recommendations for the management of large vessel vasculitis
Objectives: To develop European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) recommendations for the management of large vessel vasculitis. Methods: An expert group (10 rheumatologists, 3 nephrologists, 2 immunolgists, 2 internists representing 8 European countries and the USA, a clinical epidemiologist and a representative from a drug regulatory agency) identified 10 topics for a systematic literature searc
Differences between body movement adaptation to calf and neck muscle vibratory proprioceptive stimulation
Adaptation is essential in maintaining stability during balance-challenging situations. We studied, ill standing subjects with eyes open and closed, adaptive responses of the anteroposterior head, shoulder, hip and knee movements: gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior EMG activity and anteroposterior body Posture when proprioceptive information from the neck or calf muscles underwent vibratory pertu
Characterization of QCM sensor surfaces coated with molecularly imprinted nanoparticles
Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are gaining great interest as tailor-made recognition materials for the development of biomimetic sensors. Various approaches have been adopted to interface MIPs with different transducers, including the use of pre-made imprinted particles and the in situ preparation of thin polymer layers directly on transducer surfaces. In this work we functionalized quartz
In vivo Sub-regional dGEMRIC Analysis and Contrast Distribution in Clinical Studies of Human Knee Cartilage
Aims: This work was carried out to investigate whether considering cartilage depth in vivo dGEMRIC would provide additional information on the molecular content and changes in normal and diseased cartilage. Methods: Study I was a longitudinal study on 23 healthy volunteers; Study II was a case-control study on 9 sedentary individuals and 8 elite runners. Study III was a longitudinal study on 30 p
Ömse sidor om vägen : Allén och landskapet i Skåne 1700-1900
This thesis is about avenues (tree-lined roads – in Swedish alléer). Avenues are a characteristic landscape element in many parts of Scania. This is an object created by man with a clear visual effect in the landscape. The avenue is also something which is both nature and culture, a man-made object from nature. The purpose of the thesis is to describe, analyse and discuss the historical geograph
Computerized cognition assessment during acetylcholinesterase inhibitor treatment in Alzheimer's disease
Objectives - Alzheimer's disease assessment scale-cognitive subscale (ADAS-Cog) has become a standard clinical trials outcome for cognition, but has been recognized as deficient in areas including coverage of cognitive domains, sensitivity and standardization. Computerized test batteries may address some of these issues. The cognitive drug research computerized assessment (CDR) system is validated
Onset of cellular instability in adiabatic H-2/O-2/N-2 premixed flames anchored to a flat-flame heat-flux burner
The onset of cellular instability in adiabatic H-2/O-2/N-2 premixed flames anchored to a heat-flux burner is investigated numerically. Both hydrodynamic instability and diffusional-thermal instability are shown to play an important role in the onset of cellular flames. The burner can effectively suppress cellular instability when the flames are close to the burner, otherwise the burner can suppres
