This paper introduces a parabolic synthesis methodology for developing approximations of unary functions like trigonometric functions and logarithms which are specialized for efficient hardware mapped VLSI design. The advantages with the methodology are, short critical path, fast computation and high throughput enabled by a high degree of architectural parallelism. The feasibility of the methodolo

Detta speciellt om formningsprocessens påverkan från variationer The dynamic friction process and contact surface between tool and working material in a plastic forming process is hard to describe in mathematical form and hard to monitor and control in real time. High production speed and highly optimised forming operations result in great demands on the control equipment. Especially if the influence from variations due to the tool, work material and the fricti

Streptococcus pyogenes is one of the most common bacteria infecting humans. One of the factors contributing to the disease-causing properties is the secreted streptococcal cysteine proteinase, SpeB, which degrades several host proteins in connective tissue and circulation. SpeB activity depends on the transformation from an inactive precursor, zymogen, into a mature proteinase. We show that

The syntax of imperatives makes an interesting test case when investigating word order, verb raising and cliticisation across languages and their acquisition. This paper looks at language differentiation, i.e. language-specific parameter setting, in the imperative constructions of a bilingual child, "Katla", acquiring a verb-raising language, Icelandic, as well as English, not a verb-raising langu

I discuss how a difference in the correlation length longitudinally and transversely with respect to the jet axis in e+e- annihilation, arises naturally in a model for Bose-Einstein correlations based on the Lund string picture. This difference is, due to the longitudinal stretching of the field, more apparent in genuine three-particle correlations. They can therefore be used as a sensitive probe

The thesis deals with circuit-level aspects of CMOS buffer SRAMs where the data throughput rate is a more important metric than access time or storage capacity. One aspect is the increased write cycle related power consumption that is the consequence of a high write ratio combined with a long word-length. That is addressed through the invention of a new bit-line operation mode which allows lower
